Forums - Gaming - Would people give a sh!t about Titanfall if it were not exclusive to XB1?

Is Titanfall just another case of fanboy hype?

What annoys me about Titanfall is that it should have just been the next iteration of COD. Call of Duty: Titalfall. Actually evolving the franchise with a completely new spin on the gameplay, like gravity in Super Mario Galaxy. If each iteration was something different like this, there would be no good reason for it to get so much hate. To me, Titanfall is unremarkable on it's own because it's so familiar, but awesome as an add-on to the stale COD franchise.

Basically when a game is exclusive to a console the fanboys for the console worship said game and raze it up high. For instance, Forza for XB1 tons of fanboys hyping it when NFS turned out to be just as good or better. Sony? Remember Haze? LOL Sony fanboys hyped that to hell, that is until the 1st reviews panned it. Killzone? If it were not exclusive would there be some many people trying to convince us how good it was gonna be? I mean there are really people who will try to convince you Knack and Ryse are actually good games. Nintendo fanboys.... they even tried to tell us WiiMusic was gonna be awsome.

The best games available for the 8th gen consoles are multiplats. BF4, AC4, COD, NFL, NBA 2K are all better games than any of the exclusive regardless of how much fanboys try to convice you they may suck (COD particulary is hated by fanboys because they are angered their exclusive games cant touch it in sales)

Now, back to my main point. Is Titanfall another case of a game that has fanboys in a tizzy or is there actually some geniune interest?

It's not exclusive to Xbone. I'm buying it for 360.

You always get more pumped up when a game is exclusive, but in this case it is very different in two ways:

- It seems the collective press has fallen for it aswell.
- I have never seen so Many Sony fans weighing in on the game, where alot of them spend sooooooo much time trying to downplay it, saying it is overhyped and such.

This tells me that this game has made a BIG, and positive, impression on almost everyone that has seen it.

Just like Ryse?

What are you talking about? Ryse got massive praise for its graphics, but the press was highly critical towards the gameplay. Alot of XBox fans where positive towards it, but hesitant in regards to.... the gameplay :). So in what way does these to caes compare?

Everything in your post is true.  People were very high on Ryse until more and more of the gameplay was shown.  Fans on both sides of the fence were making countless threads about the game.  It wasn't a game that made a BIG, and positive impression on most people even though it seemed to have been in the spotlight for a while.  Titanfall is still two months away from release and very few people have had the chance to play it.  The fact that so many people are talking about it when so few have actually played the game makes me think it might be overhyped.  It might turn out to be critically acclaimed, but I'm going to have to see more before I can say the hype is warranted.

No, that history description is not true in any sense of the word. At the very first reveal of Ryse at E3 (the teaser two years earlier does not count) people, both press and gamers, complained from the start about its apparent on-rails style, QTE´s and so forth, to the degree that Crytek had to go out and explain that it wasn´t really the case at all. The view on Ryse remained though, and was somewhat confirmed when it released.

The reveal of Titanfall was on a different level altogether. The first reveal was met with cheers, but it wasn´t until people actually tried it that it garnered the hype tht is received. And actually, alot of people have played it since it has been playable since then, on Pax and so forth and more and more of the people that actually have played it, praise the gameplay above the graphics time and time again.

Titanfall is actually in the hands of people as we speak, as the Alpha build. And the only impressions I can find are that it is so fun to play.

It looks like a  lot of fun. I bet my older PC runs it better than XB1.

Well, it's not exclusive and even if it was, it's not the only exclusive. Why was this game singled out as "The one"?

Because I had seen an inordinate amout of ZOMG Titalfall is gonna be AMAZINZF!!!! Type post/threads.

Infamous is not nearly as "worshipped" by its own fanboy base, but it too falls into the "hyped more because its exclusive" category. Fact is fanboys could give 2 sh!ts about multiplats. For instance Fanboy X who owns a PS4 might not care about AC4, but if AC5 was announced as exclusive to PS4 he would instantly become a HUGE AC fan making post here every day or 2 about how awsome it was going to be and how AC5 being exclusive to the PS4 was going to make MS discontinue the XB1.

IMO AC4 is the best game available currently for next gen consoles, but people have missed it because they want to so badly to enjoy clunkers like Forza, Ryse, Killzone, and Knack.

you clearly havent played dont starve

I'd probably care a lot more, honestly. Not that the game looks bad, but it's just not that amazing to justify spending $500 on a console that is weaker and more expensive than the competition.

My personal theory as to why the game is as popular as it is now is just because the majority of CoD fans out there are finally starting to get bored of CoD and want to move on to something else besides BF. Titanfall just happens to be releasing at the right moment.

I think we differ on what "A lot of people" means. Also I dont expect to hear much of anything negative during the Alpha. Most of the people playing it right now are riding the hype train. I was doing the same thing a few months ago when another highly anticipated EA FPS was shown off at E3. Everyone who played it loved BF4. They are still trying to correct things almost 3 months after launch. I have my reasons for being skeptical.

Predicting that Second Son (PS4) will outsell Titanfall (XOne) in lifetime sales.  Click here for sales comparison thread.

Not sure. The game does look fun and many critics agree. Hell, i think it looks really fun but no single players kinda kills it for me since I am not huge on multiplayers on consoles or FPS multiplayers in general. MS fans are just having a field day cause it is on the Xbox One and no where else. Wait, that's not true. It's on the PC as well right? right? right.
