No, Carl, that's not the point here. The question is why does the Wii U get shunned harder in the UK than in the rest of Europe. That Wii Sports/Wii Fit stuff you talk about also holds true for Germany, France and all the other countries, so it can't really be the reason for the difference between the UK and the rest of Europe.
Regarding Kinect, how much was the PS3 up during the same two years?
As for tablet games, that doesn't even make sense. Originally you said that people who wanted to play tablet games already owned a tablet. Now you are saying that you didn't mean touchscreen games. But that means that tablets can't substitute the Gamepad, because we are talking about different kinds of games. So the point you want to put forward actually has to be that people don't give a damn about off-screen play.
And regarding the stores, I guess I am going to get different anecdotal evidence. Not much to conclude from that.

I wouldnt really say the Wii U is being shunned more in the UK than it is anywhere else after looking at data. I dont think thats as clear cut as Seece makes it sound. Looking at the charts, the Wii U has sold more in the UK than it has in Germany with software being rather similar. France is above the UK on software and hardware. 1 in 5 Wii U systems bought in Europe have been bought in the UK. 1 in 5 Wii U games bought in Europe this Week were bought in the UK. More Wii Us sold in the UK this Week than in France.
The Wii U is being shunned everywhere. I dont think its really fair to say that the UK is the odd one out.
The PS3 was up in 2010 by 11%, feeding on the boost from the Slim/Cut combo of '09 and GT5 in November. It was up by a further 18% in 2011 due to another pricecut at Gamescom.
With the whole tablet thing I really should have worded it all better. Ive been rushing and hardly at the computer. I apologize.
I was more meaning to say that the people who are interested in playing games on a small screen in their hands already have that. Its not just your traditional tablet games like the afformentioned Angry Birds and Candy Crush but the likes of Final Fantasy and Infinity Blade. You can play the same franchises on Nintendo handhelds and Sony handhelds. They arent going to go out and pay another lump sum to play Nintendo games on a Nintendo tablet controller. Its not that important to them. They already have the experience a tablet controller would give on so many different devices available to them. Playing games off the big screen isnt appealing, because its already the norm. The Wii U Gamepad is 3/4 Years too late, the novelty has worn off.

Thats Grainger Games, a store which also has clear signing for the platforms.

Another one for Game, though this one isnt UK based the stores are largely set out the same with clear signing for the platforms.

If you go to a Supermarket, youre more likely to find something like this -

A Nintendo section, rather than split sections for platforms, because its a Supermarket wanting to save space. This is where confusion would arise for the consumer. 3DS had problems with identity and we got "This is not DS, this is Nintendo 3DS" adverts from Nintendo, Im honestly surprised that after 12 Months we aint had "This is not Wii, this is Nintendo Wii U" adverts yet if the identity crisis is still ongoing.
