That's ... a really rubbish excuse. It doesn't explain why every other home console sells better and why WiiU has been doing bad since the first day?

Wii was mostly targeted at the casual players. Since they are not interested in Wİi U anymore, it is now purchased as a secondary console mostly, and for that role it is too expensive. I would buy a Wii U, but not for the current prices. At 150-200$ with a few games bundled, Wii U would be in a much better position.

Wii U is in deep shit here and in all honesty, I dont expect Nintendo to drag it out of the hole. I dont think theyre capable of dragging it out of the hole.

That explanation doesn't work either. If you take historical sales of Nintendo home consoles into account, then all countries of Europe are pretty much the same. There was never a really big Nintendo presence anywhere, with totals of less than 10m consoles sold across the entire contintent.

Your point about Kinect is also doubtful, because I don't think there are enough software sales to back it up. And the Wii U doesn't even have tablet games.

I don't have any real explanation either, but instead of population breakdowns, marketing, Nintendo's hardware and software direction and the like which should all be virtually identical in every country, perhaps it has to do with availability of Nintendo's new systems. How do retailers stock them, how do they present them, that kind of stuff. If they mix Wii and Wii U, and DS and 3DS in a pile, then there might be less distinction and awareness for consumers than in other parts of the world. If shops put out store ads that don't make a distinction either, then that would emphasize that problem. As a non-UK resident I can't say how the situation is, but I'd look at that over things that are virtually equal across the whole of Europe.

I can confirm Rol, that many stores in the UK lump DS/3DS and Wii/Wii U games together. There is STILL confusion as to what a Wii U is to a lot of people. Some stores get it right, but some just dont care..i wish Nintendo would open a Nintendo store on the high street, like Disney have done for themselves.

Sony has a better base for nostalgia there than Nintendo. :P

But yes, they'd rather play "next gen" multiplats at the most affordable price, that's what's selling PS4s now rather than Knack or Killzone. The PS4 is simply a much better value than anything Nintendo sells and its incredibly narrow library with overpriced/underpowered hardware. Nintendo only sells supplementary consoles now days, consoles you only buy after you have a nice PC or Sony/Microsoft console.


I have a nice pc, but the last time I bought one of these "modern" games people are talking about it sucked and was filled with so many bugs and poorly optimized. And I'm not talking about a small game, it was Rome Total War 2. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not buying these "hardcore" multiplays.

Metroid fan actually. I also like Metal Gear Solid, but that's about it when it comes to non-Nintendo games.

The Wii U needs a soccer/football game badly. I think that would help at least a little in Europe and the UK. Heck, make Strikers Charged since EA won't touch the Wii U anymore.

Oh I beg to differ, they're all oldschool rehashes with a minor bit of shiney wax added. They have Miyamoto, his students and a couple other developers and that's it. They also will have sub standard multiplat titles compared to teh PS4 that is undeniable. Sorry to break the news.

Try all current best versions of Sports titles, FPSers, inFAMOUS, Resogun, best versions of AC4, Lego MSH, Injustice, NFS series games, best versions of upcoming games FFXV, Child of Light, The Evil Within, the next Uncharted maybe a sequel to TLoU since it has been named GOtY all over the internets. Best versions of every LEGO game to come out, best version of Watchdogs....I could just go on and on. Tomb Raider DE and its sequel, Metal Gear Solid 5, Elder Scrolls Online, Mighty #9, Kingdom Herts 3...yeah and another Killzone hee hee.  PSN Network > Wii U VC network comon man, get real it's over for the Wii U. The next Ni No Kuni, Tales games to come...etc. PS4 all the way.

The official 3DS launch price was "around" £230. DS I can't remember off the top of my head. Wii was £180 and wii u was £250 for cheap pack and £300 for premium. Again "around".

 

Nintendo aren't darling in Europe because they treated Europe with utter contempt in the 80s and 90s, many great games not being released at all and the scraps we did get were often a year or more after the US. This meant other manufacturers particularly Sega got a much better foothold.

 

No Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG also means some of the systems fondest titles never even existed here for us to have those memories.

 

Chuck in all the price fixing saga and it certainly tarnishes a brand. Add in that the n64 got a panic price drop. GameCube started getting dropped by retail a year after release and they really just don't have the golden boy darling track record over here. Why should we give them money?

 

Sony and later MS treated Europe as a serious market. They reaped the rewards.

 

Personally I love Nintendo stuff, but I've always been in a minority with family and friends.

The software charts are dominated by Western games.

Wii U only has ZombiU, LEGO City Undercover and some Western multiplats that are also on X360/PS3 or even X1/PS4.
3DS is dominated by Japanese games. It only has LEGO games, almost unplayable crap ports and shovelware from Western publishers.

Pricing, Nintendo being a niche there, lack of shelf space/visibility,The fact the software sells what it does with not popping up on the charts at all is what I find interesting its quite odd

Mario outsold Knack eventually so I dont think so
