Forums - Nintendo - Why is the UK shunning 3DS/WiiU harder than elsewhere? (Virtually absent from top 40)

That explanation doesn't work either. If you take historical sales of Nintendo home consoles into account, then all countries of Europe are pretty much the same. There was never a really big Nintendo presence anywhere, with totals of less than 10m consoles sold across the entire contintent.

Your point about Kinect is also doubtful, because I don't think there are enough software sales to back it up. And the Wii U doesn't even have tablet games.

I don't have any real explanation either, but instead of population breakdowns, marketing, Nintendo's hardware and software direction and the like which should all be virtually identical in every country, perhaps it has to do with availability of Nintendo's new systems. How do retailers stock them, how do they present them, that kind of stuff. If they mix Wii and Wii U, and DS and 3DS in a pile, then there might be less distinction and awareness for consumers than in other parts of the world. If shops put out store ads that don't make a distinction either, then that would emphasize that problem. As a non-UK resident I can't say how the situation is, but I'd look at that over things that are virtually equal across the whole of Europe.

Nintendo have had historical problems with Europe, as you say. It was SEGA territory with the Mega Drive before it was Sony territory. If anything that would support what I said though about the people who bought into the Wii not really being Nintendo fans. The Wii sold more in Europe than every other Nintendo homeconsole combined because they went for the expanded market with the likes of Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

With the Wii U they reverted back to the norm. A more traditional console with a strange controller that has no unique, system selling feature or game to utilize the controller.

Kinect was more about the buzz around a new product which brought them in. The expanded market jumped on it like crazy here. Id argue that it single handedly pushed the 360 for around 2 Years (Up 20% YoY in 2010 and a further 4% in 2011 without a hard pricecut), primarily thanks to the bundles offered. Without it, I think sales would have tanked long before now. Then again, the story of Kinect is another one of wasted potential. I mean tablet games, as in games being played on a tablet. Not your traditional Angry Birds, Candy Crush and so on. Being able to play your games on your tablet controller instead of the TV was a pretty big deal for Nintendo wasnt it?

Regarding the in store stuff, it would depend where you shop. Ive seen Game stores with shelves/stands dedicated to Wii U and Ive seen smaller stores, like Grainger Games, with Wii U games lumped in with Wii games (and DS games too). For example - http://www.frenchgateshopping.co.uk/uploads/gfx/710.JPG - That image is from 2011 but you can see in a part of the store there with a large section that was devoted to DS. Right now, that area is devoted to 3DS (or atleast it was last Month). Game stores are generally like this, with clear stands and sections for each platform.

I can only chalk it up to two things, Though I dont live their so I can be for certain but mobile has taken more of a hit on handheld in the U.K. than in other places and also, the perception of the Wii U by gamers is horrible. Many still see it as the family and kiddie Wii console and the ones that dont, the families that purchased the console, they already have a wii and dont see a difference between the U and the wii because of the bad advirtisment  (and name). I think it is about the horrible perception the Wii U has over in the U.K. It has a perception of being an upgrade, not a new generation, which is what it is. I think the 3ds is doing fine though, it'll keep burning bright for a while.

Oh I beg to differ, they're all oldschool rehashes with a minor bit of shiney wax added. They have Miyamoto, his students and a couple other developers and that's it. They also will have sub standard multiplat titles compared to teh PS4 that is undeniable. Sorry to break the news.

But I guess they prefer to play Knack and Killzone?

Try all current best versions of Sports titles, FPSers, inFAMOUS, Resogun, best versions of AC4, Lego MSH, Injustice, NFS series games, best versions of upcoming games FFXV, Child of Light, The Evil Within, the next Uncharted maybe a sequel to TLoU since it has been named GOtY all over the internets. Best versions of every LEGO game to come out, best version of Watchdogs....I could just go on and on. Tomb Raider DE and its sequel, Metal Gear Solid 5, Elder Scrolls Online, Mighty #9, Kingdom Herts 3...yeah and another Killzone hee hee.  PSN Network > Wii U VC network comon man, get real it's over for the Wii U. The next Ni No Kuni, Tales games to come...etc. PS4 all the way.

What a classy post.

Nice try

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

They will only buy the wii u at a much cheaper price. For them COD and FIFA are a necessity, a console without that only makes sense as a much cheaper secondary console.

As somebody who lives in the UK, I can safely say that if I did not follow gaming in general I would have no idea the Wii U existed. I don't tend to watch much TV so may have missed Nintendo's ads, but I could bet a lot of money that the majority of people here don't know about the Wii U. My cousin asked not long ago about buying a Wii for her children, with no mention of the attached "U". As for the 3DS, I really do not know. I think handheld gaming may be perceived as an inferior way to game? But as I said I really do not know, I can only say that I often forget Nintendo exists and I do not really get more than fleeting urges to go and buy their products.

Edit: To illustrate my point, if somebody had a gun to my head and said I had to tell them how the Nintendo Wii U worked or my life was forfeit, I would be a dead man. I literally know nothing about the console.

Now list me a good game.

You really buy those sports titles that get yearly rehashes lol? Or AC? Or FPS? NFS? Yawn, yawn, yawn. I can get all these games on the pc. Not that I will.

Oh no, my Watchdogs game will be 1% worser than yours! Just kidding, I've never even seen a vid of that game, so I don't know if it will be interesting.

The Last of Us was litterally the only game that I liked by looking at youtube vids and my friends have a PS3, so I'll tell them to buy it if they haven't already lol. I'll play it there.

Oh, and I find Final Fantasy to be so overrated. Yawn! Fire Emblem: Awakning and Xenoblade Chronicles are so much better. And the upcoming title from Monolith Soft looks extremely good. Sorry that you'll miss that one!

And Lego games? That's even to childish for me man.

Shooters and FIFA. Bro you better love that future.

Because they'd rather buy Aliens: Colonial Marines

Because Wii U doesn't have FIFA or Battlefield 4.
