sunshine wasnt loved by the nintendo crowed at start, now its a bit differente, everybody likes it after playing..

I've played it and I consider it crap.

Well, if it doesn't outsell SUNSHINE it'll be a crying shame as it's a superior game. Personally I think it will do it in time as I'm one of those deluded fools who think the wii u will pick up this year.

Sunshine was and still is the most divisive 3D Mario game. 3D World was met with near universal praise, and really is just a more polished game.

I say it will. The Wii U is selling decently now, and I predict it will stabilize and slowly climb with the release of kart and smash. This game will have long legs, and sell with the system.

I maintain that IF WiiU manages to sell 18-20 million, Super Mario 3D World will reach greater sales than Super Mario Sunshine. The million dollar question is, will we see such hardware sales? :P

It's more of an $100 question. It's pretty likely Wii U will reach that number.

I don't think it will.

Wii U will outsell the GC but 3D World still won't pass Sunshine. I think it'll be overlooked because:

1) The fan base Wii U eventually attracts won't care for 3D World's style.
2) A true 3D Mario will be released someday splitting the sales in 3rds. (2D, 2.5 D and 3D Mario)
3) Mario in general has seen many more entries as of late causing a slight market saturation. (3D Land also exists)

I just need to say something semantics related that has been irking me lately.

...3D World is NOT 2.5D. That is already a thing. 2.5D means 3D models in a 2D plane like a lot of modern platformers. We can't just reassign terms whenever we feel like it or things will get genuinely confusing.

3D World is a 3D game. Thats it. No decimals required. It uses some design ideas from 2D mario games and limits movement to 8 directions but this has absolutely no bearing on the genre. 3D World is a true 3D mario already. There are numerous syles of 3D mario games which may come later though...

OK... this is a little silly to be irked over and I will continue to use the term 2.5D. It's a way to differentiate the multiple series that are emerging in Mario. 2.5D in concerns for Mario is referring to the bridging series of 2D and 3D. It's the inbetween series. 2.5D is the perfect short quick term for it, as everyone who knows the series knows exactly what this is refering to. You cannot group 3D Land and 3D World in the same vein as Galaxy, Sunshine and 64. Nintendo even specified that these titles are the inbetween games of 2D and 3D.

So 2.5D is fitting for this series in a Mario context. Don't be so pedantic.

Sunshine was the only Mario game for GC..l wii U already has 2 main games..ll it will not...

Switch!!!

No. Not the way the Wii U is selling. The next Mario will be out before it even gets the type of notice Mario Sunshine got. It deserves to outsell Sunshine though.

I completely agree that the game isn't anywhere near 2.5D, it is a 3D game.

I have to disagree with the bolded, though you are definitely not the first person to say this. In 3D World you actually have movement in 16 (?) directions, you can clearly walk angles that aren't 45 degrees from vertical/horizontal.  if you don't believe me, try it :)

OT: 3D World should be an evergreen title, it has the quality, it will be one of those games that many people who purchase a Wii U will pick up sooner or later.  Add this to the fact the multiplayer is fantastic and you've got a recipe for a game that will sell decently for a long time to come.  The only question is how many Wii U owners will there be to sell it to? In the end I think it will just fall short.

Ah, thank you for the correction good sir. I haven't actually gotten the opportunity to play 3D world yet so I was just going off what I had heard a few others say :)
