Forums - General - Would Christianity be as successful without the Heaven reward?

For me it would be the same. I have a relationship with the ruler of the universe. That for me is the greatest thing about christianity. The being that has created everything wants to know me on a personal level.

A life after death isthe only thing that gives ANY religion ANY merit.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I think maybe not... it's an important part of Christianity. One reason Christianity was so successful is that it was universal, you didn't need status or anything. Anyone could get into Heaven. That and its message was given to anyone and everyone that was willing to accept it, including low status men.

In other words, loving your enemy and offering shelter for the poor would not be preferable if it was not for the eternal reward, and the word of God isn't good enough on its own?

That's social democracy. Borrow some of the moral teachings of Jesus minus all the rewards.

You are born as a slave to serve humanity and then you die.

It is sad to see that over time humans have misinterpreted and used religion as a tool for his own selfish ambitions and desires to maintain power and control. Is Heaven an original invention of religion or a modern invention added to it to try and get more people to blindly follow? If there is a Heaven does there have to be a Purgatory or Hell?

Even different sects of Christianity and other religions fight within the same religion arguing over the right interpretation of their own religion. Catholics versus Protestants is just one. What sect of Christianity is the right pathway to follow out of Catholicism, Baptist, Presbyterian, Protestant, Seventh Day Adventist, Mormon, Jehovah's Witness, etc?

Let's say that the New Testament remained pretty much the same as it is today, but with one major exception: There was no reward after you die, nor was there a punishment for those who do not follow Jesus' teachings. All of Christianity's potential benefits must take place during your lifetime alone.

A related question, to all Christians this time, would be: Would you still be a Christian even if God didn't offer you a seat in Heaven?

If there would ONLY be punishment and no reward I also think it would work. I mean most people also dont rob a store because they would get punished  not because they get a reward for not doing it. (man getting something for free for not doing something bad would actually be pretty cool)

But then Muslim Fanatism is also successful because they believe a billion sexy virgins are waiting for them.  I wonder if "you will have to have sex with alot of males if you dont go and explode somewhere" will work (you know ONLY punishment no reward)

To bad that noone told those fanatics that its the other male  fanatics which are the virgins waiting for them so its some **** on **** action xD  Noone ever said girls were waiting for them :)

Religions are man made belief systems that have been created to manipulate and control people. There is no such thing as God or Heaven. It is insane that countless wars have been fought defending illogical religious belief systems. When we die, we simply no longer exist.

You can't say that with any more certainty than someone who says when we die, we either go to heaven or hell.  No one has been to any of the above that is able to speak of it.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I am not talking about normal people like you. As far as I know this is also not part of any "official" quran, its just something the leaders make up to fool idiots into thinking that they get a reward for going boom. I am solely talking about people screaming this:

It's doubtful, but it's worth remembering that part of the reason Christianity was so successful was that it often adapted to the religions that were there before to make conversion easier on the populace. If there was a pagan statue of a woman then they'd simply re-purpose the statue to represent the virgin Mary. Early on, even the festivals were simply re-purposed from pagan festivals.

If they kept that up then it's possible it'd still be very successful.

most of us don't even consider those people real muslims. as far as i know, anyone who kills for the heck of it has committed islam's greatest sin, which is killing, and suicide falls into that category.
