As for Japanese advertisements, that's a little tough to search for since I can't type Japanese.

I assumed that everyone with some interest in sales and video games already knew this. Apparently not. (Not directed at you, of course).

I thought so too but someone new certainly knows it now.

Nothing there says "People rush off to stores and buy gifts which results in an economic boost." but it's hilarious of you to try and insinuate that. Right in all of those, it clearly states, people give envelopes of money to people as gifts (akin to Chinese New Years) and they eat various cultural meals (also akin to Chinese New Years). NOTHING in any of these states what you implied to me which was, people are buying Wii Us, 3DS and other gaming consoles as gifts to each other.

I have a bunch of asian friends who celebrate this holiday and holidays similar to this and not once in over 6+ years has any of them gotten a video gaming console for this holiday or similar holidays. You are reaching out of your ass. That's why you can't find any Japanese advertisements. It's because, THERE IS NONE

Nice try, and good bye.

Then please explain to all of us here, and Media Create, Famitsu, the staff, etc...the nature of the end of your sales increase of hardware and software in Japan.

As for having "Asian" friends, that doesn't mean you have "Japanese" friends.  For the record, my wife is Asian.

There's not much of a "year end" increase realistically except for Wii U and 3DS. Xbox and Playstation are all selling about the same they've sold all year give or take 10k units. That's the whole point, the gaming increase is only for Nintendo and it's because both consoles are picking up steam due to good software finally coming out and good bundles/limited editions to take advantage of at this time of the year. And I don't want to hear the "Playstation 4 and Xbox One aren't released yet" because there's new games still coming out on both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and some BETTER and CHEAPER bundles to get in Japan if a "holiday boost" was real. Why would they opt for Wii U & 3DS randomly when Sony and Microsoft have just as good offerings for cheaper? There's still a market for it, so, there's no excuse other than Nintendo is doing better and improving at a natural rate, not a special year end/holiday rate.

Additionally, that's why I said

"I have a bunch of asian friends who celebrate this holiday and holidays similar to this "

Because I have JAPANESE, and friends from OTHER Asian countries who celebrate similar New Year's festivals. Thank you for missing that whole sentence though.

Yeah, I guess that's why home consoles often are up 200-400% in weekly sales in mid December compared to early October in Japan? The charts are open to everyone and easy to read.

Consoles get a holiday boost in Japan. They don't have to be a christian nation to get that boost, and like I said; it's right there in the charts every year.

Oh, and you're welcome!

Lol, you do realize sales in EVERYTHING in the world are better in the bottom half of the year? That's true for most countries in the world.

Music sales, movie ticket sales, DVD sales, etc. The list goes on. That's just not even linked holidays or religion. It's just a thing that happens. You can't even use that defense that it's a "holiday boost" in all consoles when November is Thanksgiving/Black Friday in the US and no where else. That boost would never relay to Japan. Sales are just generally better in the bottom half of the year.

That doesn't mean Wii U would go from 3k sales to 30k sales like that. That's not a holiday boost or any general boost that applies to other consoles or else EVERY console that was selling well all year (X360 & PS3) would have sold 100k which they didn't. Just accept Wii U is doing well and it's not a fluke, better yet, just wait and see how consistent the sales will be going forward to further prove my point.

Good software drives console sales. It's not rocket science.

Japan Wii U Sales going forward

Jan 12th – 14,211
Jan 19th –11,307
Jan 26 -  9,039
Feb 1st -  8,445
Feb 8th – 7,807

Seems pretty consistent to me.
