Well,w company whose main work is to create virtual reality worlds can easily loose touch with reality

(btw "save those actual new games to show for nintendo direct"?-are you kidding?
Nintendo direct is so inflated and core gamers without a nintendo system don't care about nintendo direct-that's the wrong occassion for big announcements to reach new buyers.

This. Ninty fans put WAY too much stock into directs, nobody but Ninty fans watches thsoe anyway so they are probably buying whatever Ninty is putting on those or they know about it. Its kind of a moot thing. Hell im sure a single IGN video gets more views in one day than a direct will get the entire time

I think what you meant to say is that those people prefer to play inferior games. Their actions and their words dont match. Its a contradiction in itself.

Nah, a review score doesn't make a game superior to all other games.  For example to someone who likes driving games Forza, or Need For Speed Rivals, will do the job more nicely than any of Nintendo's top rated games.

Then what entitles them to say Nintendo is "out of touch with reality"? When in the end its up to personal preferance.

Geoff himself said yesterday 4 million people were watching while Nintendo Direct streams hover around ~50k viewers, it was a bit more during E3 but then again it was E3.

Bahahah. You've got be kidding me. If they got 4 million concurrent people watching, Spike would have made these their oscars.

Turkish you believe everything some people say including your own metacritic user reviews. :)

Nintendo should show some 3rd parties at Nintendo Direct. That's the only possibility to make Nintendo Fans buy 3rd parties and make them return to nintendo as nintendo direct is some sort buying bible/ten commandements for them and the ninty charts are almost a mirror of nintendo direct this is the only way to improve 3rd party acceptance and prevent Wii u becoming a niche-niche mario only console.

In home consoles, Nintendo lost touch with the market since the N64. They simply don't launch a single console without some weird design decision that will have a high cost during the gens.

They were very much in touch with the Wii, hence it breaking the 100 million barrier.

I don't see the Wii as a demonstration of market knowledge. It sold like crazy, but it didn't dominated the market in the long run and may even be passed by its competitors. They abandoned the core market, jumped in the casual bandwagon and just watches the smartphone and tablet market steal all their casual public with cheap games that run on a device you already has. Then the sales plummeted and they rushed a successor. The problem is that their market left them for the third party support, online mode and better graphics on the HD twins. The problem with Wii U is because of the Wii. They lost the casuals and lost the core, all they have is the Nintendo fan base, that is basically what the GameCube had.

You don't sell 100 million consoles without understanding your audience. Wii lived a normal console lifespan of 5-6 years.

And the Wii did not lose the self-proclaimed "hardcore". They left back on the Gamecube.

Wii U's problems stem from the terrible handling of the Wii U itself, not from the Wii.

Majority rule.

Sadly while Wii U is shining in platformers, it is lacking in other core genres like sports, driving, shoters and action adventure.  It's also mostly ports from last gen but generally without improvement.

Honestly I want SM3DW, but that's about it for now, so I keep looking for more reasons to get a Wii U.  Cranky Kong is not the one.  X might be the one.

they need to do alot more than that, but this could be a step in the right direction. I dont see that happening though, they seem interested in just promoting their own stuff.

IMHO I think the WIi U is already the niche-niche mario only console. Its not even getting alot of the 3rd party PS360 games and those two are much closer to WIi U in terms of hardware. Imagine what the hell will happen when 3rd parties go full into PS4/X1?

I wouldnt even call it shining in platformers. You got a 2d Mario that doesnt improve much on the last couple of marios they made. a 3d one, ok ive heard good things. point for that. Rayman, which is good, but not really exclusive. a mediocore Sonic, and a DK game incoming.

NSMBU may not improve much on prior games, but the standard of those prior games is already very high, so it's still a very good game.

3D World is one of the best platformers I have ever played, and I have played a lot, being a fan of the genre who started gaming in the SNES era.

As for DK, it's the direct sequel to another one of the best platformers I've ever played.

Then there's Rayman; the definitive version of a spectacular game.

Wii U will be untouchable in platformers, like Wii was.
