Forums - Nintendo - Digital Foundry vs SM3DWorld. Those framerate drops...

Anyways, for those wondering how people knew it was 720p back in October, supposedly it is found on this site and somewhere it says that the game "renders at 720p", however I cannot read Japanese. Didn't stop me from leaving the page open in a separate tab though. The music is enjoyable.

Terrible title, since the whole point was the frame rate doesn't drop, your title makes it sound like there's an issue.

What would I need to change it to for you to not complain about it?

Don't listen to him, the title is perfect. It lures all the haters into the thread thinking they'll get to bash the game, only to see that they'll have to settle for, "Psh, big whoop."

It's more about lurkers who didn't bother to click the thread but walked away with 'frame rate drops in SM3D' in their heads. It's misleading, as simple as that.

please don't feed me that bullshit I have seen the difference between upscaled and native before and no, sd images on small screens don't look as good as
an hd image on a big screen. by that logic I wouldn't see any difference when watching a video on youtube going from sub 480p to full hd, my screen size doesn't change does it.

You're sitting like a foot away from your computer, of course you'll see the difference. It's not the screen size that changes. Like I said, it's the image size that changes. If your screen is big enough or you are close enough to it, you'll obviously see the difference... or rather, if your screen is small enough or you are far enough from it, you won't see a difference.

It's the reason people say the Vita is HD even though technically it's 960x540. On a screen that size, the difference isn't very noticeable. You wouldn't say that when you play a Vita game on Vita TV and it's upscaled to 1080i that the graphics get better. They don't. The size of the image changed.

Those framerate drops are nowhere to be seen, all while running at a super smooth 60fps.

A game that could easily run on the Wii aside from being in HD, I sure hope it could run at 60fps.

Here's an image of Super Mario Galaxy upscaled to 720p on the Dolphin Emulator.  If comparing to the Wii and not an upscaled image, resolution aside, Super Mario Galaxy looks a whole hell of a lot better than Super Mario 3D World.

Not at all, Super Mario 3D World looks way better, maybe I'm the only one whose played it.

I love this. Their "proof" that this game could run on Wii is a pic from it running on a 6 core or 8 core PC.....

You also say I was wrong about 720p/60fps.It is native 720p upscaled to 1080p.

Upscaled =/= Native 1080p.

Did you not read the article at all?

"Assets appear to have been created from the ground up for the Wii U this time around and image quality is sharp and clean, operating with a full 1280x720 framebuffer. "

If it was running in 1080p native it would have been 1920x1080.

As I said to Euphoria14,

It's more about lurkers who didn't bother to click the thread but walked away with 'frame rate drops in SM3DW' in their heads. Deliberately misleading titles shouldn't be practised.

When Mario goes into a box and is transported to another box elsewhere in the level, is this essentially just a loading screen?

The transition seems to be live, as in some cases the exit box is somewhere visible, or at least somewhere that had to already be in memory.

The game can't be that large that distinct loading would be needed. It's footprint is very small.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I asked because I thought that in Mario Galaxy some of the warp stars were glorified loading screens.

I also thought the boxes seemed unnecessary at times.

If mods see an issue with it they will change it, so until that time comes let's try to not focus our attention on a title but rather the content within the OP.

I am not sure if you are trying to joke or not, but this CLEARLY does not look better than SM3DW.  The lighting is way superior in SM3DW, the textures are superior, all of the effects are better in SM3DW, the character models are better too (even if only slightly).

I had a framerate drop, but it barley dropped and it lasted around half a second.
