You're sitting like a foot away from your computer, of course you'll see the difference. It's not the screen size that changes. Like I said, it's the image size that changes. If your screen is big enough or you are close enough to it, you'll obviously see the difference... or rather, if your screen is small enough or you are far enough from it, you won't see a difference.
It's the reason people say the Vita is HD even though technically it's 960x540. On a screen that size, the difference isn't very noticeable. You wouldn't say that when you play a Vita game on Vita TV and it's upscaled to 1080i that the graphics get better. They don't. The size of the image changed.
