Why would they? 3DS userbase in Japan is soo much bigger and that's where the majority of MH fans are now.

No its not....

3DS versions of MH have barely reached half of what the PSP games sold.  3million versus 6million.

Wow, some people are really desperate trying to talk the success of MH4 down. Because they don't accept, what they don't want to.

First of all: no MH-game sold 6 million. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite sold 5.39 million, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 sold 4.87 million.

Second: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite sales are worldwide. In Japan it has only 4.13M. MHF3 has all it's 4.87M sales in Japan, as MH 4 has it's 3.03M. So the comparison is already a lot down since the starting doubled number you claimed.

Third: Look at the 10 week sales. MH4 has 3,005,880; MHFU has 2,247,833; MHF3 has 4,081,791. So MH4 is ahead of MHFU (the best-selling MH) in the same timeframe and behind MHF3. All other Monster Hunter titles fall far behind.

So MH4 clearly sell among the best-selling titles in the franchise.

@OP: MonHun was "forever" on PSP and "permanently" avoided the DS. If you want MonHun on Vita you should show support to Capcom and should buy every Capcom-title on the system. If the sales aren't there, why should Capcom bother? Sales of 190K for their bestselling Vita-title aren't enough:

But Monster Hunter's gameplay is already bad and MonHun is Capcom's whore to be shopped around wherever they feel they can make a quick buck.

MH gameplay is bad? Lies.

Surely you jest? It's combat mechanics and gameplay is awful. Its strength is in co-op, large amount of content, and boss hunts.

You spelled "padding" wrong.

I'm trying to be nice with my comments Rol.

@ Soriku

I haven't put 100s of hours into any single entry, but I've put at least 20 into every PSP game (including a fantranslation of Portable 3rd where I spent closer to 50).

You spent 50 hours on P3rd and still thought it was awful? :P

Well MH gameplay isn't for everyone but it's not popular for no reason.

The game itself isn't awful, but the gameplay is. I only spent as much time with as I did because I had friends counting on me to play it with them. Surely you've put up with bad or mediocre games because you're playing with friends. Anything can be fun if you do it with friends.

There's so many holes in the popularity argument Soriku, you don't want to use it.

I guess. Not 50 hours though.

And all I'm saying is that it's popular because a lot of people enjoy the gameplay (including the co-op), that's all. It's not like there are any other reasons to play the game.

I definitely think there's a cycle to it. People want to play what their friends are playing, so that's why you have people who aren't super interested in gaming buying what is popular or trendy. It's a major reason why all of the yearly entries like COD, Battlefield, and Pokemon sell as well as they do.

I'm sure that's a reason but I don't think the series would've gotten as big as it has if everyone thought the gameplay was bad.

It got big because it was unique. Group of 4 friends could sit next to each other and fight monsters. The absurd amount of content gives you a lot of value and the multiple weapons give you variety despite playing the same 3-4 areas a billion times over and over again. It's also very pretty and advertised extremely well. It just grew from there, largely on word of mouth.

No its not....

3DS versions of MH have barely reached half of what the PSP games sold.  3million versus 6million.

Large userbase doesn't equal fanbase in this case. Just because its available to more ppl doesn't mean the fanbase is also included in that. Remember PSP userbase was also dwarfed by DS's but MonHun found success there when they didn't on consoles(even larger install base).

MonHun on 3DS might appear to be more profitable in the short term, but I doubt it in the long. Capcom has probably opted for NIN exclusivity due to A. Moneyhat and B. Allows them to reuse old assets. Barring the moneyhatt funds, Capcom stood to make the same amount of sales on Vita with the potential to be greater because PSP/Vita fanbase overlaps at about 90%. Crapcom could have just as easily reused assets on Vita too. Attach rate on Vita games is also big right now.

Monster Hunter 4 has already shipped 4m units in Japan alone. Since it's still selling there and a worldwide release is bound to happen, 5m look to be a lock and 6m isn't out of the question.

On topic: Most likely yes. All the arguments against it that are put forward in this thread don't really hold water. Whether that is along the lines of "the Monster Hunter fanbase has moved to the 3DS" (which is true) or "why bother with Vita's small installed base" (which is also true). What people need to take into account is that there were plenty of Vita games greenlit during a time when the Vita sold less than 10k units per week in Japan, and the system did that for months. It's clear that Japanese third parties want the Vita to succeed and thus it isn't farfetched at all that Capcom, the masters of milking, will eventually a drop at least a port of Monster Hunter 4 on the Vita.

according to VGC, Tri did about 2.5mill on 3DS, MH4 did 3mill. The biggest selling entry in the series was in like 2008 on PSP which sold 5.5million. and the last one to release on PSP was in 2010 and did 4.5million. That was only 3 years ago. The series has never been that popular outside of Japan so I would expect any large boost from Western launch of MH4.

This is supposedly SOLD, and not SHIPPED which is what  that 4+mill is saying. I don't know what the weekly sales are for the game now tho.

Greatness Awaits

Main entry? No...

Spin-off / Paid MMORPG? Maybe

Capcom can make way more money on 3DS so why bother? 6 times the userbase= more sales, lower graphics = less development costs and also lower expectations in that domain from gamers.

Unless Vita manages to sell many units, then there's no chance.

well... they already announced MH frontier G is coming to the Vita. Its not the main series though.
