Forums - Nintendo - The Next Zelda NEEDS To Have Realistic Visuals

Not gonna happen. It's probably going to be a new style, if we look at history. The only 3D console Zelda that didn't have a new style was Majora's Mask, but that was a direct sequel to OOT. Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword all had different styles. Plus, Aonuma said it wouldn't be realistic (Or cartoony)

The system is underpowered if you're comparing it to the XB1/PS4, there's no getting around that.

The next Zelda should have a realistic style simply because the console Zeldas that have a more realistic style tend to sell far better.

Simple as that. Sorry Aonuma.

I don't think he should complain much anyway, 2 of the last 3 home console Zelda titles (Wind Waker and Skyward Sword) both have had cartoony graphics.

Why the hard on to make it 3/4? You can be creative without making your game look like a Saturday morning cartoon.

It's obvious they need to return to TP and the tech demo and base the new game on a realistic art style. I've been saying it long before the Wii U was out, the casuals are already gone! They are playing dirt cheap games on tablets and smartphones and they aren't coming back. Nintendo has to make their games appeal to core gamers again. They won't do that with cartoony games and Mario in a cat suit. They need a mature Zelda, Metroid Prime 4 (Trilody HD would also be nice), X, Bayo 2 and a bunch of other games just like that. There is a reason why Zombie U is still the 3rd best selling Wii U game, ahead of so many better Nintendo games.

Wii U needs a big portfolio of mature exclusive games. Without it, it's gonna be a massacre.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

But if has cartoony graphics and has perfect scores, then people migt reconsider. Lol

People need to realize that the Zelda games NEVER had realistic graphics.

Everyone of them including the "real looking" ones in the franchise like OoT/MM and TP were more or less influenced design wise by Japanese aesthetics so you'd have toonish eyes, shapes and such. In most games it has always been about balancing between lighter sensibilities not uncommon from fairy tales and fantasy/adventure elements of varying tones. Link might look a bit more like an adult in one or two of them but if that is really how you judge the game based off the avatar then you should take a look in the mirror when it comes to actual internal maturity.

The next Zelda game won't look like Wind Waker but the fact remains those wanting a Zelda game with the tone or textures that are similar to what we've seen in games like Dark Souls or even Skyrim are dooming themselves to disappointment.

I mean most members of this forum have a better chance of going out in Las Vegas and arranging a 3 way before 4 am with only one of the other 2 people being a hooker.

Honestly though from a corporate POV I think Nintendo should just shoot down Aonuma if he tries to make the next Zelda cartoony again.

Be a professional and put the needs of the platform/business above your creative fetishes. A realistic style should in no way limit your ability to make a fantastic game or create a lot of surprise.

I think for it to be a winner, it needs to be like the 64 games, but WAY bigger.
LoZ- The Lens of Truth. The gamepad acts like the lens so you can see hidden things/dark world places.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

But that's a dangerous path to start down. The last thing I want is for developers, especially those at EAD, to start catering to the lowest common denominator. We have enough studios already that do that.

I don't really care what the next game looks like -- I'm sure it will be great no matter what -- but I would much rather risk lower sales and have Aonuma and company stay true to their artistic vision, whatever it is.

Well, the only reason that WWHD didn't show off the full graphical capabilities of WiiU was because it was still a Gamecube port. If a ground-up cel shaded game were designed on WiiU (or any next-gen console) it could shine like nobody's business.

Having said that, I do agree that Zelda U should use a more realistic style, but by that I mean something akin to Ocarina or Twilight Princess, NOT a Skyrim or LOTR style. Don't take the whimsy from my Zelda!

As long as they keep the same visual style as the tech demo they showed off at E3 or the style of the N64 games and Twilight Princess they should be OK.

Zelda games will never be ultra-realistic a la Skyrim or Witcher or similar style games, nor should they be, but they can always tone down the caroonishness that the series has been stereotyped for thanks to games like Wind Waker, the two DS debacles, and Skyward Sword.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
