Forums - Nintendo - The Next Zelda NEEDS To Have Realistic Visuals

They should just make a game with GOOD graphics like Mario Galaxy and Mario 3D World.

Twilight Princess had terrible and generic looking graphics due to a bad art direction. Realistic graphics would be incredibly boring too, it would really limit the game artistically, and I just do not seeing having a realistic looking Zelda game working at all.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I just can't get over the people who defend the cartoony style. We say Zelda should be more realistic - just like TP and the E3 demo, and then you talk about Uncharted, Skyrim, dismemberments, gore, blood. WTF guys!? Are you crazy? Is it so hard for you to understand that a realistic Zelda means OoT, MM, TP, E3 demo style? How many times does it have to be written... smh...

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

For me the explanation why it needs is simple. Every gen Nintendo hypes zelda by making a realistic demo. Then they proceed to let the fans down and deliver something completely different.
They have to realise they cant do that. If you promise, you need to deliver.

in wich reality?

The one in which Wii U won't reach 10 mil or even 9.3 mil till the end of the world. So your world is safe

I would point out that the Zelda E3 demo in 2011 was just a demo likely running on PC hardware and does not accurately represent what the wii u is capable of. The last 12 months of wii u games represent what the wii u is capable of plus a little bit on top. I honestly can't see the wii u running a game to the same level as the E3 demo.

Also Zelda windwaker was by far the most successful Zelda game by ratio of owners who bought the game. You have to factor in the small userbase of Gamecube. Zelda windwaker still seems visually fresh and beautiful and I personally would be happy with a new Zelda game based on a similar game engine and visual style.

I didn't like the art style of Twilight Princess. It looked ghastly and looked technically dated even when it was first released. Nintendo know they have to mask the weak hardware.

Many people are very impressed with both Mario 3D and what we have seen of the new Mariokart game. Both are visually very beautiful but are not actually technically impressive. This would surely be the best way to approach a new Zelda, something beautiful that is still within the capabilities of the wii u. We know the PS4 and Xbox one will get games that fully exploit their far superior hardware. Nintendo have the same problem as wii, creating fantastic games with technically weak hardware. This time its even harder as the wii u isn't selling itself on novelty value alone it needs games to push sales.

We probably have a different perception of what realistic looking is. You know exactly what i mean from my post though, so lets not engage on semantics wars, i dont have the patience for it.

I'll draw for you: Nintendo never showed a realistic zelda tech demo. HOWEVER, even if you consider the E3 2011 zelda demo, spaceworld 2000 zelda demo and spaceworld 1995 zelda demo as realistic, here's what we have:

last gen, nintendo didn't show a zelda demo for wii. OOT was much better than the lame 1995 demo. the only case where you are marginally right is the spaceworld 2000 demo, with the next zelda after it being wind waker.

soooooo, happening once is very different from "Every gen Nintendo hypes zelda by making a realistic demo. Then they proceed to let the fans down and deliver something completely different."

and to make it clear, tech demos are just that, demonstrations of the SYSTEM'S capabilities. aside from the 1995 demo, wich was actually oot in development, it was made clear that we were seeing demos only. just like nintendo already stated that the 2011 demo was TP artstyle in HD while they tried different styles for the new zelda (wich won't have the art style of the demo).

exactly ONE console zelda had cartoony style. and all I see in this topic is people saying it shouldn't be realistic (like always). no one is saying it should be cartoony.

While I fully agree, you have to keep in mind that Nintenddo's a business first and foremost, and that Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess (generally considered the most 'realistic' Zelda games) have outsold all other Zelda games, and by a very big margin, too. Considering  Wii U's sales, I'd wager Nintendo will want to secure as many sales as possible. Plus, they already have a cartoony Zelda on Wii U, with WW HD.

Seemed like a natural evolution of Ocarina of TIme's style to me; similar color scheme, but with a higher level of detail, improved lighting, a a more lovecraftian creepiness to its monster designs. It was let down a tad by its low res textures, a legacy of Gamecube's small disc size, but it was still one of the best looking games of that system. (Though not one of the best on Wii)

I certainly wouldn't call it generic, as there aren't many games that have the the same style of creature design or lighting.

No, just no. At this point in time they don't have to mask anything. Everyone knows exactly what to expect from the Wii U and we want to finally get it. Look at GTA 5. Look at Uncharted 3, Tomb Raider, The Last of US. Wii U can do more!! It's not on par with PS4/XO, but it's more powerful than PS360 and that is enough to give us games that everyone is gonna enjoy visually without making them cartoony and compensating with artstyle. Just make it 720p, 30 fps and push the hardware to the limit. What other N franchises can finally showcase the power of the system? It's up to Zelda and Metroid to show people that Wii U can actually show us great graphics. Wii U isn't weak. It's just weaker than PS4/XO, but it is capable of rendering very beautiful games.

Just look at the TP screens. This game looks nice for me and I disagree that it aged badly or even worse than WW. It still looks good and I'd love to see a game in this style in HD, high res textures, huge draw distance, etc. pushing Wii U's capabilities to the max. I think it would be breathtaking.

I want it to look like twilight princess honestly. That game is a masterpiece on almost all levels
