When they have nothing special to show, they won't be able to do a WiiU direct.
simple, isn't it?

I think it's been confirmed that there won't be any new games announced. So we can expect A LOT of new footage from 2014 3DS games, I imagine Nintendo isn't ready (or doesn't want) to show Wii U games footage.

No, it hasn't been confirmed. The only time its ever confirmed is when they do special game focused directs. They say focus but usually they have at least a "one more thing" at the end or reveal a new game at the beginning.

I'm not disappointed, I love Directs, there is always a surprise!

1doesnotsimply

i have a 3ds but not WIi U so cant say im let down. But it is sorta strange.

The WiiU's 2014 is looking better than the 3DS's at the moment. I have no problem with it at all.

Depends on why they are not having a Wii U direct- If it is due to not having much if anything to communicate then that is a problem- hopefully that is not it- I wish they would announce some more games for 2014 and or dates for the games already announced- I am getting nervous that 2014 is going to look like 2013 in as much as they start pushing games to the 2nd half of the year, then to the end of the year, then push some over into 2015

I just don t get the feeling they have enough games (1st, 2nd or 3rd party) to keep a consistent flow coming through most of 2014- If X and the Zelda U game are going to be 2014 games that would be huge IMO

It makes perfect sense because afterall the 3DS is the more successful or only successful nintendo system in the coming generation.

HAha your disappointed now wait till after the Nintendo Direct, you might truly be disappointed :)

It's like killing off the runt of a large litter:thing's clearly doomed, so have mercy on it, and also give the rest of the litter a chance!

Nintendo has done more 3DS directs this year than they have Wii U directs. Anyone else see a problem? The only pure Wii U directs have been legendary, but so far there's only been 2 ones that had little to no mention of 3DS at all, such as the amazing January one and their awesome E3 direct.

3DS is probably my favorite handheld ever created, but in my opinion I would much rather see the Wii U succeed than the 3DS, seeing at this time the Wii U only has about 1/10 of the install base of 3DS.

Plus, there are still tons of loose ends with the Wii U that need to be tied up. Remember when it Luigis Mansion 2 was listed for Wii U, will we hear about that? What about Yarn Yoshi, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, we haven't even heard of those since January. Not to mention that suspicious third title sega is supposed to be doing for the Wii U with Nintendo.

Don't even get me started on the E3 games. How about X or Mario Kart 8? I'd much rather see more footage of those than more footage of Bravely Default and Kirby, then again that's all personal preferance.

I think it's just sad that Nintendo is doing ANOTHER 3DS focused direct when the 3DS already has a ton of hype behind it. The only way to hype up the Wii U is with games and Nintendo seems to only be using that strategy for 3DS.

Let me know how you feel. I'm disappointed :-/

I think having a 3DS direct right now makes more sense. Lots of info about 3D World (The only Wii U game that can really boost sales, besides Wii Party U in Japan) was released in October, and we really need information about Kirby and Yoshi's New Island. Plus, they don't want to take away attention from 3D World. X and Mario Kart 8 are probably over 6 months away, so information about them should wait. As for Shin Megami Tensi X Fire Emblem, that's probably over a year away. Information about Wii U games should wait until January. There they could announce the fourth playable character in DK, announce the third game in the Sega partnership, talk about Yarn Yoshi, announce Miyamoto's new IP, and maybe talk about Zelda Wii U, X, Smash Bros., and Bayonetta 2.

I'm fine either way, unless they have another flipnote mini direct.

It makes sense because there aren't many major first-party 3DS games announced for next year. Kirby, Yoshi, Mario Golf, and Super Smash Bros. seem to be it.
