Forums - Sales - Wii USA/PSP Europe: What r u doin, STAHP.

In the case of the Wii, it's especially mind boggling, since WiiU is fully backwards compatible and all Wiis sold at this point in time don't have GameCube functionality anymore. Same for DS/3DS of course, but that seems to have settled down.

On the PSP side however, I fully understand it. PSP offers so much more in terms of games (and they are cheap as hell, too). Heck, I payed about 300-350€ for my PSP, 2 Memory Sticks, a travelling bag and 29 games, with the most expensive game being Valkyria Chronicles 3 Extra Edition at 35€ incl. shipping. I'd say that there is much more value in the PSP than in the PS Vita right now (even though I personally think that the Vita was worth it for Persona 4 Golden alone). I wouldn't go near that E1000 model though. It's far to expensive for what it is.

Same applies for PS3 and Xbox 360; since their successors won't be backwards compatible (and no, digital does not count imho) I fully understand the people that go out an buy these consoles right now. I'd even advise them to wait a bit longer and hope for another price drop. Personally, for example, I'd much rather buy an Xbox 360 than an Xbox One this holiday.

And wasn't this the case with PS2, too? It's long lifecycle did hurt PS3 and probably even Xbox 360. Maybe not in the long run, but at least initially. I fully expect this to happen to PS4 and Xbox One as well, probably not to the extend Vita and WiiU are experiencing it, but at least similar to that.

Affordable systems with great/good libraries still selling, while the successors are overpriced with relatively poor libraries.

This is nothing new. For example. When the PS3 launched the PS2 went on to sell another 40-45 Million units.

I've suspected the PSP being overtracked in Europe for the longest time, I haven't seen a 3000 model at retail for years, and I'm not exaggerating. There's literally nothing we're getting that the US didn't already have either.

Then why aren't you mad people are still buying PS3s and 360s? Surely those will hurt next gen sales.

Flaw with your logic - The Ps4 and Xbone are not out yet. The Vita and Wii U are.

The difference is, the Ps4 and Xbone likely won't suffer from struggles like the Wii U and Vita have for the past year.

No flaw with my logic at all. I'd imagine someone that buys a PS3 or Xbox in November won't be in any hurry to buy a PS4 or X1 anytime soon. I know the latter are not likely to struggle like Wii U and Vita, but PS360 will still take sales from them nonetheless, which is what I thought was the point.

No, that wasn't my point. Yes, you are correct that the 360 and Ps3 will take sales away. I wanted to focus, however, on the struggling consoles like the Wii U and Vita. And also, while new games game out for Ps3 and 360 this year (big exclusive and multiplatform games) when was the last big game on the PSP or Wii? There isn't a great reason to be buying those consoles these days, and it just hurts the struggling successors.

Well I didn't mean to derail the thread, but I see your point. Also, you kind of answered your own question with a couple of threads from a few weeks ago:

Now I know you bought yours used from a friend, but the idea here is that you picked up a supercheap console that you never owned to pick up some games that you always wanted to try and are now at a price you're willing to spend on.

True. Although I bought mine used because it's still like $100 new in stores (which are the only numbers tracked) I guess if people wanted them new it's STILL cheaper than the Wii U. Still though, it's almost equalling the Wii U in the states. That's unheard of!!!

Why is this happening? Because the Vita and the Wii U share the same problem; lack of appeal. Their aim is way off or pointed in two or more directions and it's not working.
The PSP and Wii were a lot more poised and had actual direction.

Well.. if I look at a portuguese store I see 3x more space to psp than vita...

You can hack the shit out of psp and play emulators from NES to PSX. It's awesome and not possible on Vita. I just love dat GBA emulator on my PSP Go!

The fault is with the Wii U and Vita not being appealing enough, so I suggest that you have this thread locked.

I think the reason is that the PSP and the Wii are much cheaper and have far more games than the WiiU and the Vita.
