Forums - Microsoft - Dead Rising 3 runs at 720p and 30 fps on Xbox One, UI runs at native 1080p

I'm so disappointed and pissed that Dead Rising 3 is not 60 fps. They should have made this game 500p 60fps.

I'm getting more and more disoppointed in next gen graphics.

How can this be? Most games are made on last gen engines or at least they look so (Battelfield 4), and yet they cant run 1080p.

I think we were simply spoiled current gen.

I mean, last launch were offered beasts that cost twice the retail price to produce...

Spot on. They were truly beastly machines.

When current gen launched it was amazing graphics. Oblivion, Gears of War, DMC4 looked almost unbelievable compared to PS2 games. This time multiplats look like current gen, only with sharper textures. And sometimes they're not even in a higher res, they're not even 1080p.

I do think The Division and some other games look very very good (and it remains to be seen how it looks on console once it's out in the shops), but in general I feel like next gen games are graphically on par with graphics on fairly cheap PCs.

I agree totally with the bolded.  These systems are underpowered.  The real problem for both systems longevity is that the tablet/phone market has been doubling or tripling their power every year or less.  If these consoles are going to last 7+ years, smartphones will have eclipsed them by then.  This generation will be much shorter(4-5 yrs) due to the way under powered systems.  Even the PS4 is too weak.  What is more than likely to happen is that game designers/publishers will limit their games dramatically in 2-3 years because they won't want to waste resources for just the PC market.  3-4 years from now, there will be a number of tablets with processors and GPU's that rival the XB1/PS4.  Where will that leave the consoles?  Why buy a console when the same games will be playable from a tablet that you can take anywhere?  Sony/M$ didn't build this next gen with future proof in mind at all.

When phones and tablets manage to get the gaming form factor right, maybe they'll become a threat to home consoles. The way they are now, I don't see those platform as viable for "serious" gaming. Certainly not for blockbuster type games or other AAA franchises.

With bluetooth, I will be able to use either the PS4 controller or some 3rd party on the Tablet.  As far as form factor goes, tablets can stream their content directly to the tv.  If a tv is not available, you just use the tablet screen.

Point being, tablets have a portable capability and are easy to add 1st or 3rd party accessories to make them compatible to play most any game.  I don't think they would work well today, but 2-3 years from now, Maybe...

It is near the end of the end....

maybe this game can be optomized for later DLC downloads and get a fps upgrade to 45 or even 60.

Tablets won't be matching consoles anytime soon because they have to meet a strict power requirement and much less for a smartphone. This generation is gonna be long because PCs are going to have issues about the latest state of the art technology. Each time that is spent to manufacture smaller transistors gets longer and longer therefore process node transitions are going to get longer and in total the high tech industry won't be brining out more powerful parts anytime soon. BTW the most powerful tablet comes in at around less than 100 gflops!

Well. The CPU's in tablets will quickly surpass the next generation consoles, Jaguar to put blunty is crap.
Ram will catch up soon enough, even if it is only Low-powered DDR4.

GPU's however are power hogs in comparison, so I doubt we will see them match the Radeon 7000's in the next gen twins for many years to come. (Unless Microsoft drops in an Optimus set-up in Surface one day.)

I know the CPU's are both shit in the X1 and PS4. (Not necessary to remind me of that.)

LPDDR3 running at 800mhz will net you a bandwidth of 12.8 GB/s. I'm sorry but I don't see the ram catching up anytime soon and that especially goes for the PS4.

That last line is true.

disappointing again, but not unexpected at all with this one because of all the zombies.

i hope ac4 can at least redeem the x1's name a bit with 1080p on x1. it seems to be the last big title left.

I think at the end of the day the "problem" is the X1 is arguably maybe only 4-6 times as powerful as 360.

If you double the resolution from 720 to 1080, then you halve that. it's only 2-3 times as powerful at 1080p.

The thing is you maybe need 5X to show a generational difference. So your choice is:

720P with 5X gfx power of 360

1080P with only 2X gfx power of 360

The former will give people a "next gen" difference and the latter wont. So thats why we're seeing so many 720 games.

But I still hope X1 will get better over time and we'll see more 1080 or at least 900P.

Why exactly do think that Sony is going to give up first party exclusives like Uncharted, God of War, or Infamous to Windows based platforms like PC's?  I'm seriously really curious on your logic behind that?  It hasn't happened in the past, why now?

First party Sony games run it's devision.  Are you trying to state Sony will go under, cause I don't think so personally.  Or are you speaking of illegal roms and emulation?

You make it sound as if Sony has a choice in the matter.

And I'm not saying Sony will go under, that's placing words in my mouth, don't do it please.

Emulation is also perfectly legal. (Changes from country to country and state by state of course, so check your legalities on the issue.)

LPDDR4 is on it's way. :)
They could also increase the bus bit width and clockspeeds.
And, Tablet/Phone GPU's are actually rather bandwidth efficient, well. More out of need that is, plus you generally don't need to do 1080P 60fps on a tiny 4.5" screen so that helps, 720P or lower with upscaling and 30fps on a 4.5" screen looks far better than having that same resolution stretched over 30-80" of screen real estate for instance.

What people need to understand is how the hardware works. Games cant just run at 1080p/30FPS. DR3 pushes boundrys that most GPUs would have trouble doing, and thats 100s of detailed enermys in the screen, add explosives and effects and an openworld and you have a pretty hard pushing game. Sure it doesnt look as pleasing as Forza 5 or Killzone but look at the type of game DR3 is.

If you want the game at 1080p/60FPS on both XB1 or PS4 then expect them to cut alot out, which as a gamer im glad there not doing. I dont play Dead Rising games for graphics, i play them for the 100s+ zombies in the screen.

Halo 4 and TLOU are the best in the buiness when they came out, however for them to look that great they had to make both games linear.

I can live wth 720p and 30 fps. Still much more pixels and frames than the PS4 version.

I hope its a constant 30 fps. I remember some early footage being choppy.

Modern GPU's don't have trouble rendering 100's of detailed enemies.
There is a technology known as "Geometry Instancing" which allows for the duplication of a model's mesh, thus reducing the overhead.
You can than combine that with Tessellation so that each model has differen't geometry.
Then you can apply a different texture to each model.

I remember telling people before the PS4 and XBO launched that they were foolish to expect 1080p and 60fps. Before the generation begins hardware makers and developers are always promising the gamers the moon and stars. The reality is always different. To push more objects on screen, more effects, etc. developers are going to reduce the framerate and the resolution of their games.
