I will loose respect for Nintendo, because I believe (read I see potential on it) in what they released yet they decided to cut the support when the biggest fans have already got the system few months and 2 years at launch.

Read the OP again. No one said anything about cutting support for the Wii U.

Lets assume this was the Wii U "release" plan from Nintendo (big games highlight per year)

2012: NSMBU, Nintendo Land

2013: Pikmin 3, Wii Party U, Mario 3D World, Wii Sports Club, Wii Fit U, W101

2014: DKC: TF, Mario Kart 8, X, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros. U, Yoshi's Epic Yarn

2015: Zelda U, Mario Galaxy 3, Pokemon NFC, Animal Crossing U, Nintendo Land 2 (hypothetical)

2016: Star Fox U, Diddy Kong Racing U, Kirby U, Metroid Prime 4, Kid Icarus U, Mario Party (hypothetical)

This would still continue the exact same. Nothing changes in this regard, these games still come out on the Wii U. They are just playable on this new platform too.

This is a different concept from the past, where for example if you wanted to play New Super Mario Bros. U but only had a Wii, you were basically locked out and had to buy a new console. Same games. Just different platforms to experience them on.

again, nooo

Seems like everything you post about Nintendo is a bad idea that would ruin their rep and kill consumer confidence in them.
I've yet to see any idea from you that was valid or a good business decision in any way
Wii U will be just fine. Looking at PS4X1 games atm, even they cant compete with PC so I don't see why Nintendo needs to. Games will get better looking as developers learn the console so it is not like what we see now is the limits of what it can do.

In two years, the Wii-U will be four years old. That's the exact age the first Xbox was when it was replaced. How did that work out for MS? Pretty good?

It's not like a four year cycle hasn't been done before. I don't think it would hurt Nintendo at all this gen.

Taking advice from people who can't count to four is the last thing Nintendo should do.

You just outdid Conegamer's June 31st post.

Shit lol. I guess what I was thinking was that it would be announced in two years which would be E3 2016 and that launching that year. That would make it a four year cycle.

I don't care when the release their next console, just give me enough enclusives for my Wii U so I can justify my purchase, if they can do that in 2 years then that's fine with me.  I want another 3D Mario, Zelda U, SSB, Mario Kart, and a classic brought back, last gen it was DK and I'm hoping its Star Fox this gen.  If they give me that in addition to X, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, DK Tropical Freeze, NSMBU, SM3DW, WW HD, Yoshi Yarn, and SMT X FE then Ill be happy.

I think the idea that one console "ends" the previous console kinda has to change anyway.

It was valid in the 90s/2000s, but things have changed, there are different ways of moving forward especially now with digital distribution.

When a new iPad comes out, people don't throw a fit because all their old apps won't be supported or they have to buy the new iPad just to use new apps.

I was just sitting here thinking, in 2 years it will be 2 years and 11 months old. It hasnt even been out a year yet.

@prayformojo,

Yes xbox got pulled in 4 years, and a lot of people used it as a reason to not buy a 360. That would be a horrible move to pull a console before it is even 3 years old. Its not going to get people to rush out and buy another console that may see support pulled early once again. Lets not use a console that didnt break 30 million as an example of what Nintendo should strive to be like.

I would buy it =D

One that coexisted with the Wii U? One that could run modern PC games?

This PS4-XB1 era I think we can agree is probably going to last 5-7 years. So 2 years from now will still be relatively early into this generation.

Since both the PS4/XB1 seem to have problems running even current PC games at 1080p, this gap is going to only get worse as better PC cards come out. Perhaps Nintendo can capitalize on both Sony/MS' relatively underpowered hardware.

Something that has a 20nm 3 TFLOP AMD GPU + 16GB of RAM. As in it soundly beats the snot out of a PS4 and crushes the XB1. Should be feasible in a couple of years. Nothing fancy otherwise, comes with a regular controller, but is compatible with all Wii/Wii U controllers as well, $300 or so. Lets call it the New Nintendo Entertainment System.

1.) It can run Wii U games, but newer Wii U titles can come specially programmed to take advantage of the new chip and run in 1080p full HD with anti-aliasing or perhaps even 2K/4K resolution. 4K displays should be more common in 2 years time, imagine playing Super Smash Bros. in 2K or 4K resolution. Crystal clear.

2.) It can run slightly modified PC games as it has a PC GPU (AMD). A third party can easily transfer their games (say Battlefield 5 or GTA VI) with little or no work, but they do have to pay Nintendo a licensing fee to get it on the platform. So Nintendo is suddenly getting licensing fee revenue for games they weren't previously. Win-win.

The original Wii U would be more of a budget platform by this time (sub $200). This new platform would be for the Western market and Western gamer.

Basically I'm thinking it would be like a "Steambox", just one made/controlled by Nintendo that also runs Wii U software ... so it can run all PC games (with Nintendo getting their licensing fee per title of course), which means a ton of third party support + Wii U games in higher resolution.

First off I would like to say everything in this post is extremely stupid.

Second, Both the PS4/X1 are slated to last 10 years.

Third, not if PC gamers start adopting adopting 4K so that will slow the gap becoming bigger.

Fourth, were already having issues on trying to double transistor counts and you expect 20nm silicon to be able to achieve 3TF at a less than $150 part ?! (The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result and I think you've gone at the deep end.)

@1) 4K ? Not in a snowballs worth of chance in hell if AMD's newest part such as the R9 290X is barely passing the mark with 6.2 billion transistors.

@2) The thing is the WII U's is an off the shelf part from the PC world. http://www.nintengen.com/2012/07/wii-u-confirmed-specs-from-sdk-gpu-info.html

Even though the cpu's architecture dates back to the gamecube, that won't mean that the developers aren't going to have to jump more hoops just to get it running on the wii u.

@Bold I hope your joking on this part because the steambox will go the way of a dinosaur or dreamcast. (LOL I seriously can not see any steambox like consoles winning.)

It isn't as bad of an idea as people here are making it out to be, but I can see the multitude of reasons why they wouldn't want to.

Soundwave wanted the next successor to be nintendo's "steambox" LOL. Call me crazy all you want but I find it laughable at best and that isn't even funny.

While actual steambox systems may not sell like crazy, Soundwave's idea would almost certainly perform better than the steambox.

Of course, there are many reasons why Nintendo wouldn't (and probably shouldn't) do it.
