One that coexisted with the Wii U? One that could run modern PC games?

This PS4-XB1 era I think we can agree is probably going to last 5-7 years. So 2 years from now will still be relatively early into this generation.

Since both the PS4/XB1 seem to have problems running even current PC games at 1080p, this gap is going to only get worse as better PC cards come out. Perhaps Nintendo can capitalize on both Sony/MS' relatively underpowered hardware.

Something that has a 20nm 3 TFLOP AMD GPU + 16GB of RAM. As in it soundly beats the snot out of a PS4 and crushes the XB1. Should be feasible in a couple of years. Nothing fancy otherwise, comes with a regular controller, but is compatible with all Wii/Wii U controllers as well, $300 or so. Lets call it the New Nintendo Entertainment System.

1.) It can run Wii U games, but newer Wii U titles can come specially programmed to take advantage of the new chip and run in 1080p full HD with anti-aliasing or perhaps even 2K/4K resolution. 4K displays should be more common in 2 years time, imagine playing Super Smash Bros. in 2K or 4K resolution. Crystal clear.

2.) It can run slightly modified PC games as it has a PC GPU (AMD). A third party can easily transfer their games (say Battlefield 5 or GTA VI) with little or no work, but they do have to pay Nintendo a licensing fee to get it on the platform. So Nintendo is suddenly getting licensing fee revenue for games they weren't previously. Win-win.

The original Wii U would be more of a budget platform by this time (sub $200). This new platform would be for the Western market and Western gamer.

Basically I'm thinking it would be like a "Steambox", just one made/controlled by Nintendo that also runs Wii U software ... so it can run all PC games (with Nintendo getting their licensing fee per title of course), which means a ton of third party support + Wii U games in higher resolution.

First off I would like to say everything in this post is extremely stupid.

finally we agree on something for once

It isn't as bad of an idea as people here are making it out to be, but I can see the multitude of reasons why they wouldn't want to.

Soundwave wanted the next successor to be nintendo's "steambox" LOL. Call me crazy all you want but I find it laughable at best and that isn't even funny.

While actual steambox systems may not sell like crazy, Soundwave's idea would almost certainly perform better than the steambox.

Of course, there are many reasons why Nintendo wouldn't (and probably shouldn't) do it.

One of those reasons is that third parties dislike the shit out of nintendo LOL so they should avoid coming towards anywhere near valves strategy.

You may have more in common with the ones that you have less affection for than you do with others.

Off-topic: So are you now going to check out sean malstrom ? It's only fair that I spread his word seeing as how he's usually right about why things will sell. (Except for him being blinded into thinking the vita would beat the 3DS ofcourse )

To make it easier for some, the ones that you hate, despise, or ridicule are the ones that have alot in common with you. In other words you get mad at the small differences in their vision/thought.

Here you go. http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/

Alot of nintendo fans don't like him even though he is a nintendo fan himself or he used to be up until the WII U but nonetheless he has excellent insight market trends, business, and sales too.

Seems like everything you post about Nintendo is a bad idea that would ruin their rep and kill consumer confidence in them.
I've yet to see any idea from you that was valid or a good business decision in any way
Wii U will be just fine. Looking at PS4X1 games atm, even they cant compete with PC so I don't see why Nintendo needs to. Games will get better looking as developers learn the console so it is not like what we see now is the limits of what it can do.

It's a 'what if' idea.  Just like how DC has superman crash landing in Russia.  Personally, I think its an intriguing proposition.  Not very likely and something I wouldn't want Nintendo do, but as a detour, its pretty cool.  Nintendo doens't have the balls to do it.  Don't hate on the OP.

If I can add to it though, I would want Nintendo to make this the Premium instead of an alternative.  You have all that the Wii U has, but I would want Steam to be apart of it.  Something like: Wii U Steam.  Again, not gonna happen, but I would be down with it.

Agree, but I'd replace "you" with just the average gamer. Practically no one gives sound business advice.

I do think Nintendo would be smart to have a backup console plan in case the Wii u doesn't pick up momentum, but sure isn't a pc/wii u hybrid. My guess would be just a better gimmick.

But a console that would be easy and straight forward for a third parties (who make 90% of the games, as Nintendo is only one company and as we've seen can only make so many games) is a terrible idea. Lets keep making weird, propietary consoles, 6 years behind tech cycles, and hope soccer mom USA goes crazy over a controller gimmick and put every egg in that basket. Because that strategy can't possibly fail.

I think the idea that one console "ends" the previous console kinda has to change anyway.

It was valid in the 90s/2000s, but things have changed, there are different ways of moving forward especially now with digital distribution.

When a new iPad comes out, people don't throw a fit because all their old apps won't be supported or they have to buy the new iPad just to use new apps.

That's because every app that works on the first iPad still works on every other iPad. The same goes for PCs, every new PC can play most of the PC games of the last 30 years.

But you are proposing a x86-Nintendo-console (easy ports from and to PC/PS4/XBO) which also plays WiiU-games (different architecture), even better. That won't be cheap. Essentially, Nintendo would build a PC with a very very efficient WiiU-emulator (or the complete WiiU-hardware additionally build into the box).

This wouldn´t make sense. They won´t release a new home console at least for the next 4 years, that is, IF there will be another home console
