I take it he hasn't played any of Nintendo's new shit.

you mean like pokem.... oh wait.

More evidence that nobody knows about The Wonderful 101.

you mean you dont know about it. its made by platinum games not nintendo.

And Pokemon is made by Game Freak. Doesn't changed that fact that both IPs are Nintendo IPs.

because nintendo own game freak, 53% according to wiki. im pretty sure they wouldnt leave one of their highest selling games in the hands of a 3rd party developer.

but ok maybe i was wrong to assume it wasnt a nintendo IP, but still, the question is why dont they support it? ive not seen an advert for it stuck on the side of a bus. its their problem.

Nintendo working with Disney would be pretty awesome though. Nintendo themed amusement park would be a lot of fun.

Nintendoland begs to differ.

I'm talking about an actual amusement park (and does Nintendoland suck? I heard it was good, but I suppose it could have been just for the launch sliding scale).

And to those saying W101 sucked or not what you wanted.  Ha, the age old story.  Nintendo makes  a new IP, people bitch that they dont' want that and want a new Metroid or Zelda.  Nintendo makes  a new Zelda people bitch that they have no good ideas and just milk their franchises.  People scream non-stop for remakes, yet when Nintendo makes does a remake they are being lazy and taking away resources from a new game to make a remake.  Ect.

I've never seen Nintendo be seen as the winner EVER.  Even the Wii was a "fad" and never got credit where due.

Heck pretty sure Pikman got hugely negative responce on its initial showing, yet now its a franchice people begged for years for the next iteration.  People want a new IP from Nintendo, but whenever one is shown its never what htey want.  I swear no one would be happy until Nintendo shows a call of duty trailer.

Hit the nail on the head... But you forgot one more thing, if it's not made by Nintendo, some people actually have a problem with that even if it's a 3rd-party exclusive that Nintendo supervised or 2nd-party.

Back on Dave-J.

I wish that Jaffe worded his thoughts better... A complete sell-out is something I fear the worst (Look what happened to LucasArts). If it's some sort of a partnership/collaberation, then I'm bloody okay with it! And a real Nintendo is not a bad idea!

When he said have some new blood, I thought Nintendo did that already, wasn't New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS for??? Or was that just a myth?

And the "new sh*t!" he said.., hasn't he seen the Wii U? And I won't even bother going in details with the games, no matter how light the gamepad usage may be.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

This you see is the classic "Nintedo problem".  A great game that was as you correctly stated a critical and commercial success is considered "nothing to brag about" by what I am assuming ( forgive me if I am wrong ) is a Nintendo supporter.

So in a parallel world if God Of War was a Nintendo game it would have flopped if we take irstupid's opinion of it as general among the Nintendo crowd.

Nintendo fans it seems are hard to please and while some might take this as a positive, financially it can spell a bit of a disaster in the long term.

No i'm just saying I would hardly give someone credit for mashing two things together.

It's not a new unique IP, its greed gods in a hack a slash.  The game may be good, but the idea is hardly worth mentioning.

HOw about he make his own world, with its own laws and own gods and own mythology ect.  The reason i brought up percy jackson was for that reason.  Looking at my bookshelf quickly I'll name some books series.  Stormlight Archive, Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Song of Ice and Fire, Kingkiller Chronicles, oh and Percy Jackson.

Every single one of those series has its own unique world, except percy jackson who is ripping off greek mythology.  It's easy to take greek mythology, roman mythology, marines, navy seals, ww2, ect an toss them in a game.  You aren't creating anything.  Half you game is already done for you.  Everyone knows who ares is and thus needs barely any explanation about his history and what not.  Or if you do you just go on wikipedia and copy paste.

I give more credit to fresh original ideas such as pikman, heavenly sword, elder scrolls or things like that.

I see what you mean. From that point of view I agree with you but unfortunately that's not quite working for Nintendo.

Brand new ideas are a risky business on Nintendo systems more than any. It is not the developers or publisher to blame. They are driven by what we buy and sadly when their customers refuse to buy games apart from Nintendo and party type, family type games what are they suppose to do?

Yes again I agree it is good to give credit to originality like you stated but balancing the bank sheet is now far more important to some developers than being seen as creative or original. It is the world we live in. That's why the top selling games over the last few years will be packed with franchises on any system.

To be honest only wii fit stands out in that said list and if I am right that might prove to be a dead duck in a month or so. Everyone wanted the first wii fit but I have yet to know of anyone that is going to buy the wii u version...  I don't know that many people so I could be wrong.

To me a lot depends on games like Bayonetta more than new IPs for the wii u. If Nintendo can snap up a few more of these successful but not blockbuster titles it will keep a lot of fans happy and move more consoles than fresh new ideas that no one have really heard about. I really hope Bayonetta 2 sells well saying that because if it flops ...

Another wanna-be developer who envies Nintendo and the popularity of its franchises. What a shame

Wanna-be? He created God of War

Hardly call God of War something to brag about for a new IP.

It's a classic hack and slash genre that there are 100's of them and has no new characters.  All just well known Greek gods, that have been around for 1000's of years.  Might as well call Percy Jackson books the next Lord of the Rings.

Ect.

You know what ? I think people who complain are tired of Nintendo old franchise AND new franchise. Also, it may be due to people complaining not being the same you know...

People complain about the stupid plumber who jump on mushroom and his nintendo's brothers. Nintendo release a guy in spacesuit who make small colorful creature grow from the ground, and midget power rangers... Seriousely Nintendo. You don't need to be stupid to be disappointed by Nintendo old and new franchise. I think more than new ip, people want a different direction from Nintendo..

Oh, and Platinium games are by no means owned by nintendo. Same case for Wonderful 101. They just contracted an exclusive. That's all.

Now, if you want my true opinion about Nintendo : I'm disappointed at them keeping the childish games production. I want them to go on serious AAA. Not Call of Duty like, but on more serious tone, with better artistic direction. Like Mirror's Edge, or the wolf amongt us. Maybe something like Kingdom hearts, the first.  I want them to keep their artistic feel and go on serious title with it. I'm tired of their child games. Mario could have been the most complex game ever, a plumber with a mustach and an italian accent, I'm 22 and I can't. Problem is their public have aged, but the company did not. I never liked Mario or Kirby, even at 5 I find them stupid as fuck and poor as games. But i'm convinced people who grew with mario, yoshi and all are fucking tired of them.

Plus, they did not aged very well. Seriousely, a small green dinosaure, an italian/portuguese plumber, Pokemon... They're not just go-by-the-window game, they also confort people in thinking video games are for children. Like Call of, GTA, god of war confort people in thinking video games are for racist violent asocial people. They're just bad games for young people who will realise it later in their life.

The only franchise I respect a lot is Zelda. Majora's mask, wind waker and to a lesser extent twilight princess are fucking brillant. And that's what I'm expecting from them.

The ones who have to preface their statements with "i'm a Nintendo fan, but..." are always the worst. The ones who make no claim to care about Nintendo do better in ignoring them altogether, rather than the faux-fans who deride them.

Yes, fans of a company who are willing to criticize them in the hopes that they will improve are the worst. The fans who support a company no matter what are the best.

Corporate worship is fun!

You understand little about real Nintendo fans, then. We're a highly critical lot on the whole, just that we're largely in agreement about what the acceptable Nintendo critiques are, and what the unacceptable ones are. The ones who always say "Nintendo should do X, it would be so simple" are usually the faux-fans we're speaking of, when the rest of us have a clearer idea of the way things should be.

Oh god. Stop with the No True Scotsman nonsense. A real fan of Nintendo is just that, someone who likes Nintendo/their products. You don't have to abide by some set standard of criticism towards Nintendo in order to be a fan of them.

I suppose you think you get to determine that I, for example, am not a Nintendo fan, despite buying all of their consoles and the Gamecube being my favorite console of all time, because my criticism doesn't fall under your arbitrary criteria.

And "Nintendo should do X" is an unacceptable criticism? That statement, mixed with the dozens of defensive posts in here, is very telling.

Yes, highly critical indeed.

I'll put it here again, in case someone did not noticed :

" Oh, and Platinium games are by no means owned by nintendo. Same case for The Wonderful 101. They just contracted an exclusive. That's all. "

I agree with this 100%. To some, being a Nintendo fan is more an exercise in groupthink rather than just being someone who loves to play Nintendo games. On this site I've been denied "Nintendo fan" status when criticizing certain aspects of my Wii U from a "true" fan who doesn't own one.

I think it would be a healthy exercise for people here to post 3 bad things about their favourite company, and 3 good things about their least, but there is no way that wouldn't turn into an excuse for cheap shots.

Someone else browses TVTropes . You gots a handle?

I'll admit that it is disingenuous of me to try and seperate out "true" Nintendo fans, but you can observe many common threads amongst the Nintendo community on this site, while we are still individualistic on several matters, the group that generally rallies behind Nintendo in defending against the FUD-spreaders and others tend to be highly critical of Nintendo because they have a stronger understanding of why Nintendo has succeeded in the past. Those with this understanding are the "true" fans, because they're the ones who want Nintendo to be Nintendo, rather than wishing Nintendo were something else, which is often the case with the "I'm a Nintendo fan, but i hate that they do Y, they should do X. That would make them popular with mature gamers like me."

The bone of contention that I have with your viewpoints, at least, regards the third party situation. Proper understanding of the third party issue is a key pillar, at least as far as i have observed Nintendo communities.

I do apologize if I have been off-putting in the past, however. You are a reasoned poster and have much to contribute, even if i feel that part of your ideals are misguided.
