You see I'm going to get a lot of hate and pitchforks thrown at me here but, the thing about Nintendo is that they design their entire system for their franchises in mind instead of designing it for new censored. This is why I agree with Jaffe.

Rather untrue, if you look at the Wii. How many pre-existing Nintendo franchises really made great use of the motion controls? Zelda (after 5 years of the console on the market) and Metroid Prime, but few others.
The more legitimate criticism is that Nintendo designs their hardware for what their game designers need and no others

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That is what I mean.

In all honesty yeah. Nintendo are arrogant as hell. People accuse Sony of that last gen. But Nintendo have been more so forever. The blatant crap that is Wii U is proof of Nintendo just not listening. Devs didnt want it. They dont want to build for it and Nintendo wasted all the dev time and cost on the controller. Why not put it into better visuals for the system? Hell Microsoft managed to do both.
So Ninty there is no excuse. I used to game and love you until you left gamers like me hanging. Nintendo used to be the guarenteed place to go for the best in console visuals and powerful hardware. I liked that. They went down a different path. One I couldnt follow.

The bone of contention that I have with your viewpoints, at least, regards the third party situation. Proper understanding of the third party issue is a key pillar, at least as far as i have observed Nintendo communities. I do apologize if I have been off-putting in the past, however. You are a reasoned poster and have much to contribute, even if i feel that part of your ideals are misguided. |
I haven't found you off-putting, in my experience you have been balanced. I think that's impressive given loyalty combined with mod powers. I was talking about another guy I've clashed with a couple of times over Nintendo criticism.
The third party thing does seem to be a frequent cause of contention. This might be down to my own ignorance, but I haven't really seen more evidence for one point of view than the other. I just treat it as a grey area with both sides at fault.

Indeed, the pinnacle of innovation.
I honestly think Nintendo does need a major shake up if only in their promotion arms because for the last few years. They haven't advertised most of their software worth a damn with some rare exceptions that get two weeks worth of television advertisement before its commercials disappear altogether from a limited block of programming.
They build buzz well enough with stuff like Nintendo Directs, internet videos and some viral marketing stuff but when it comes to actually putting something that pushes the games themselves they seem determined to just let word of mouth be the only push games get.

I used to be a Nintendo fan. Saved up my own Birthday/Christmas money to put toward an NES. Traded some skateboard parts to a rich kid for his SNES. I often say that Sony won me over with the PS1, which is true, but before the PS1 even came out, I had become disenchanted with my SNES. Ironically, I mainly attribute this to my two favorite SNES games, FF VI and A Link to the Past. They were both so incredibly good that they made me realize how limited almost everything else was. They made me want more. They made me want games with quality stories, interesting characters, and new experiences. Mainly what I got, however, were more platformers. FF VI, especially, broke my heart because I couldn't find anything else like it. Then the PS1 came out and suddenly, bam, new gaming experiences all over the place. I understand now that Nintendo lost me partially because of the cart/CD fiasco but back then it just felt like Nintendo had no interest in keeping me as a customer. That bothered me more than a little. I still really don't understand why Nintendo has refused for so long to recognize that many people crave variety in gaming. They're trying now, kind of, with Bayonetta and Monolith, but it might be too late. It's not like they ever had to alter Mario or Zelda or anything else. Sony has LBP and TLoU, so it's obvious you can have different types of games in your stable. What they're doing now with Monolith is exactly what they should have done a long time ago.

Just a thought here, but... have you ever had a Gamecube? Because that's exactly the Nintendo you're describing and their games weren't exactly too hot back then.
