Forums - Nintendo - I wish Nintendo didn't own the rights to the Pokemon IP

Cry less and play something else. The pokémon series doesn't need you anymore, you have already done your part.
It's your cousin who is going to enjoy it because of who the game is targeted to.

GameFreak doesn't want to make a main series game on home console, and you don't want to play one, even if you think you do. If you have an issue with the series, take it up with the developer, not Nintendo. GameFreak is still relatively autonomous for a subsidiary.

And you should have messed around with the online features more. X/Y basically is an MMO.

Just played a good 10 hours of Pokemon X on my cousins 3DS over the past couple days. I can't stand it. Honestly. It feels like more of the exact same formula I've been playing for 12+ years. It even seems MORE childish than ever. I get that they want the game to appeal to everyone, but what about the gamers that grew up with the franchise? When is Nintendo going to cater to those (now older) gamers?

I'm not saying make this hardcore Pokemon game. But I feel like a little girl playing the game now. It's sad really. Pokemon used to be hands down the best portable game available in my opinion.

Maybe they can make a good Wii U pokemon game. Or an MMO style Pokemon game. Something that doesn't involve dressing up my little pink and cute monsters or entering them into a fashion show.

Thoughts on the current status of the Pokemon games?

NOTE: This does not reflect the sales of the game, as X/Y will easily move 10+ million copies. However, how many of those will be people that grew up with it, rather than the current gen of 5-12 year old gamers?

I speak as an older gamer, that loved the old RPGs in the good old time on PC (80s). I've gone away some time ago from PC-gaming, because I switched to Linux. Well, I was never an avid Windows-gamer, I was more an DOS-gamer. That old. I use console to get the gaming-kick, because that's the only area I'm missing out on Linux. I was a bit cautious, as I was trying out my first Pokemon-game (White 2). But yes - this gives me the old RPG-vibe I was missing over the years and adds interesting features with the trades and online-fights. I say Pokemon is for the old crowd and the new Pokemon Y feels exactly like it should for an old fart like me. (Add to that Etrian Odyssey IV and I'm in the RPG-dreamland with the 3DS.)

I don't see why I should feel like a little girl playing the game. Yes, there are boutiques and stuff, but I can try it and leave it be, it is not in any way important. And even if I would like a little girl playing the game - why should I care. I'm old enough by now, that I don't need to show at every opportunity that I'm an adult now. So, this game is probably played by I lot of kids - but again: why should I care? It's exactly old-school as I wish for games.

So I can't understand your OP.

Btw you can always play the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, it's like pokemon but with demons and hardcore stuff.
The fourth game is for 3DS!

And a real scenario, great interactions, multiple endings, not fake difficulty (strategy, not farming), ...

In fact, SMT and Pokemon have nothing in common.

?The first game in the Shin Megami Tensei series practically invented the monster catching mechanic (Megami Tensei for the NES). They have similairties and Pokemon can be hard if you play competitive! The story and such of course is totally different, lots of hardcore stuff in Shin Megami Tensei. But both of them consist in cathing monsters and use them to fight others, they even have a weakness system where if you hit the correct weakness you do more damage.

Gameplay wise they are quite similar.

Well, by your signature, it seems to me you don't own any nintendo product, but your cousin(underage, i belive) own one, correct? So nintendo develop their product with one thing in mind: who buys our products? Not people like you, it seems.

Bear one thing in your mind: any other company holding a ip for this long problably would screw with it.

I get it, ni no kuni is the pokemom game that nintendo never did.

If really want a totally mature, no-childsh pokemon game, i recommend pokemon conquest.

Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I just think that monster catching isn't enough to compare both games, as it's only a small part of two games that have a complex gameplay.

Well yes, you also have demon fusion in SMT which makes a difference but they could be compared!

If he doesn't like Pokemon he could give SMT a try! I mean what PS3- sales is complaining about is the kid friendly aspect of Pokemon. MT is the opposite and the closest a game can get to Pokemon. also Ni No Kuni!

I would argue that pokemon cater quite a lot to the older gamers. If you just dig under the top layer you find so much more, and most of it needs an older brain to be used right.

Also, Nintendo ain't developing pokemon, so don't blame it on them. Game freak is developing the games, and they are the one that is saying no to console development.

I guess the story can get a bit more mature. Other than that it caters to all ages.
