yes yes we get it, ps4 is better than xbox one, most people have accepted that now and are okay with it.

I'm quite confident PS4 will not have a 1080p baseline, nor will Xbone, simply because devs have shown time and again that resolution is one of the first things they ritualistically sacrifice in the pursuit of improvements elsewhere. |
PS4 will have 1080p on all exclusive games known ( all the games announced by sony have 1080p ), that's the difference compared to microsoft and the xbox one, the only exclusive game that has 1080p on One is FM5( 4 HD)
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m

Not all PS4 games will be 1080p though, just like not all PS3 games were 720p.
Not questioning cboats credibility, but I question his agenda. What exactly is he trying to accomplish? Forza 5 is confirmed 1080p. Ryse, arguably one of the (if not the) best looking launch game for either system, is 900p. Here's the thing though, these are launch games. Truthfact is, games get better (visually, technically and otherwise) as a generation goes on. Always has. Always will. Is he implying games will get worse or stagnate right out of the gate? Odd comment really.

It is more fair to present the problem like a statistic one, like: 2% of games on Wii U games will be 1080p. 30% games on XOne will be 1080p and 95% of PS4 games will be 1080p. Those numbers are a rough estimation just for the purpose of this exemple.
So all your assertions are true: "PS4 will not have a 1080p baseline, nor will Xbone" is true as "baseline" would force that 100% of games need to be 1080p.
"Not all PS4 (or Xone or WiiU games) will be 1080p though" is true also. Welcome to the PR world of true assertions. But those true sentences are useless and don't model correctly the real and complicated (not black & white) world.

Simple facts. 1080p is more demanding than 60fps. #Dealwithit The jump to 1080p is bigger than the jump to 60fps according to the power required. Like I said earlier just because you don't notice it doesn't mean people with 50+ inch screens won't. |
Again, you didn't understood the argument of diminishing returns.
And if rendering in 1080p@30fps or 720p@60fps is using up more hardware-resources is - as often - depending on other circumstances. You're going from the pure pixel-number: 1080p@30fps ~ 62M Pixels/sec and 720p@60fps ~ 55M Pixels / sec. You completely ignore, that every new image (so 30 for 30fps and 60 for 60 fps) needs additional calculations for changes in the scene (you will not look at static images that are rendered again and again). Depending on how much effort is put into the changes in scene, it can be more demanding than the bigger number of pixels for 1080p. So basically it can differ from game to game. And it is not that the difference between 62M and 55M is so big, that the other calculations are without importance.
Anyways, the argument of diminishing returns ISN'T about the question if 1080p or 60 fps needs more power.

Where did i say" all PS4 games will be 1080p" ?
I said " all the games announced by sony have 1080p"
