Forums - Gaming - CBOAT strikes again: Says not to expect 1080p in Xbox One

Some Microsoft dev said something about this:

Notice how his "answer" doesn't address the point at all? (Who cares if the unit is painted like a zebra or a parrot)?

Yeah. The bastards even had the balls to say that Windows 98 had no Blue Screens.

Neither PS4 nor Xbox One will have a native 1080p baseline.
We went through the same thing back in 2006 with the PS3; in the end, many developers will choose to sacrifice resolution for better effects, materials, textures, etc.
This is why many 360/PS3 games weren't even 720p native. In fact, many high profile games like COD, Crysis 2, Halo 3, Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, and the PS3 versions of GTA4 and Bioshock weren't.
Many gamers won't even notice the difference between 720p and 1080p, much less 900p and 1080p. So devs will spend the power on things they will notice instead, or just not spend the extra time and money to optimize for 1080p.

These next gen consoles clearly have way more bandwidth and pixel output at their disposal compared to the PS360U so there is no excuse for why they can't have 1080p and that especially goes for the PS4.

No matter how powerful your system is, though, 720p will always cost less fillrate than 1080p, fillrate which can be used for other things. Yes, the PS4 can do 1080p more capably than the PS3, but that won't stop devs making sub-1080p games for it.

True enough but I seriously doubt they would do it.

Isn't Battlefield 4 720p on PS4?

The resolution is not confirmed for either the PS4 or xbone, in fact they said it is running over 720p and under 1080p and also said that the resolution will be optimized at launch. :)

Couldn't care less really. Just make them nice and shiny like Mr. Clean's head. I don't care if either systems gives me "true 1080p HD". 720 and great effects, animations and textures are good enough - for me.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I'm quite confident PS4 will not have a 1080p baseline, nor will Xbone, simply because devs have shown time and again that resolution is one of the first things they ritualistically sacrifice in the pursuit of improvements elsewhere.

Even though it has 32 rops ? :P

PS3/360 could do 720p comfortably but devs still made tons of games at sub-HD resolutions.
