Forums - Nintendo - Fighting Genre, Is It Dying? Top 20 of 7th Gens FIghters! (How WIll It DO Next Gen?)

Seriously? Is FPS taking over or what. Is gen 8 going to be worse? PS2 had a couple of multi million sellers and SSBM sold 7mil!

I like fighters (SSB being my favorite franchise Period) but will this just make developers stay away from making FIghting Genre Games? YOur thoughts?

Nowadays everything is dying or is doomed.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

It's because everyone is waiting for the next Super Ultimate Mega Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold Shift Trigger Edition..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

yep. Fighting games are getting more and more niche.
Younger gamers don´t seem interested in this genre anymore.

It´s all about FPS and TPS right now.

I think the sales look fine given they don't have the huge budgets of other genres. Also the sales for each game would look much better if you combined all the formats rather than individual consoles. Super/Street Fighter IV sold about 7 million over all formats for example. Mortal combat (2010) did about 4 million combined ect.

It's why we're seeing things like Tekken; Soul Calibur & Dead or Alive going F2P.

Racing games have died down too.

There is truth in this. I know I am waiting until DLC and so on are finally released... and then I wait some more.

I think cause some franchises have lost its credibility or something that made that franchise special, like i'm an avid tekken player and i've been playing tekken since tekken 2 and it peaked at tekken 3 it was easily the best but, it started to go downhill by adding in too many characters, stages with walls, ground bounces (tekken 6) and many other things but it is starting to change with tekken tag tournament 2 but its a bit to late. Other companies such as capcom lost their fanbase or potential new buyers with its business practices, remember the whole street fighter x tekken dlc thing, ultra street fighter 4 their 3rd re-release of the game and lastly they released ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 just 9 months after the first iteration and because of things like this they have lost a lot credibility

well there's Guilty Gear on PS4 and KI on the Xbone, so, I think it'll be fine.

Same here.  Other than Street Fighter 4, with your standard fighting game I don't purchase it because there's always a complete edition with more character somewhere down the line.  I actually got suckered by Capcom.  I purchased Street Fighter 4, then Super Street Fighter 4 was released and I assumed they weren't going to release another, so purchased that when it hit $20, then arcade released which I didn't purchase, and now Ultra is coming out.

I purchased Dissidia and although Dissidia Duodecim came out later, there was a lot of dramatic changes in the content.  Honestly though, Square Enix should have just added new characters, new stages, new music, new skills/character tweaks, and called it a day.  The additional storyline they added was garbage.  Though I did like the one labyrinth/dungeon mode, that's actually pretty cool and adds a lot of replay value for single player.  I liked the idea of there being a replication of the FF1 world map in 3D, but it just slowed the pacing of the already poor single player story mode down, with a pretty much empty shell of a world map.
