Forums - Nintendo - Fighting Genre, Is It Dying? Top 20 of 7th Gens FIghters! (How WIll It DO Next Gen?)

Funny how Brawl outsold the next 5 games below it combined.

Looks like fighters are getting less and less popular. SSB is an exception.

It's because everyone is waiting for the next Super Ultimate Mega Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold Shift Trigger Edition..

There is truth in this. I know I am waiting until DLC and so on are finally released... and then I wait some more.

Same here.  Other than Street Fighter 4, with your standard fighting game I don't purchase it because there's always a complete edition with more character somewhere down the line.  I actually got suckered by Capcom.  I purchased Street Fighter 4, then Super Street Fighter 4 was released and I assumed they weren't going to release another, so purchased that when it hit $20, then arcade released which I didn't purchase, and now Ultra is coming out.

I purchased Dissidia and although Dissidia Duodecim came out later, there was a lot of dramatic changes in the content.  Honestly though, Square Enix should have just added new characters, new stages, new music, new skills/character tweaks, and called it a day.  The additional storyline they added was garbage.  Though I did like the one dungeon mode, that's actually pretty cool and adds a lot of replay value for single player.  I liked the idea of there being a replication of the FF1 world map in 3D, but it just slowed the pacing of the already poor single player story mode down, with a pretty much empty shell of a world map.

You and me both. In fact, I've made it a rule to NEVER EVER buy any capcom game on first iteration. Though as we both see, it's not foolproof...

I actually liked the new stuff in Duodecim. In fact, it was far more more seamless and enjoyable to play than that goddamn squares system in the original. Even my girlfriend liked it, and that was her first experience with any FF (her taste is specific: platformers and Pokémon).

Well I'm trying to get back into Duodecim, but can't find anyone who wants to play it right now.  I have some people who say they'll play it but don't, and my best friend who used to play it all the time with me doesn't play anything but Call of Duty Black Ops 2 now.  Will play through adhoc party if you own a PS3 and are interested :D.

I don't play it at all anymore, really. I milked the max I could from it, and also promised myself to play pretty much only PS3 until the end of last year (I missed a lot of the 7th gen, mostly PS3 games), so 'fraid not. Thanks though

True that, which seems to be working very much in its favour.

What plays a big part for me: I feel ripped off by many fighters. At first it was only Street Fighter, but this gen it has really expanded: Super-Duper-Hyper-Ultra Editions. I won't buy any fighter within 2 years of release because of this shit. Buy the basic version, some DLC additionally aaaaaand the Super Edition with all DLC and some new characters, stages and balancing comes out. Update from the old version? Maybe next time. FUCK.YOU.

Also, I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE that nowadays everything is unlocked from the start. All characters and all stages. If you are lucky you get to unlock some bonus costumes. Guess what, not everyone plays this game competitive and NEEDS everything unlocked. Thanks for making the SP completely pointless for me. :/

I swear, if the next SSB has everything unlocked from the start I'm going to KILL Sakurai >:{

@Cheebee, Tbone: Yep
@kupomogli: While not scared, I'd prob get my ass kicked Never played with a real person.
