Ehh..ok. It's just Richard Warren was an avid gamer whom went by many nicks on many gaming sites.

Yes R700s are DX10.1, but as I've already mentioned Latte bears absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to any R700. All you need to do is look at the die shot to see that. It appears to resemble Brazos more closely with a bit of Llano thrown in too.
Have found a link to that changelog info now. There was also another changelog that showed both the PS4 and Wii U builds sharing another DX11-equivalent feature.
As for my fixed function idea and third party engines we know that Nintendo were working very closely with the big boys so if they have included fixed functions you can bet that they'll integrate well with them, even if it means that those engines have less freedom to use their own HDR, depth of field etc etc.
Could be a reason why Epic have thrown their toys out of the pram regarding UE4 support for the Wii U, perhaps..?

I should have said "equivalent" functionality. Some say that there are some features in GX2 that supersede DX10.1 equivalent features. Due to NDA's, obviously there's no way they'd say anything else. But there are several others that say something similar as well: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/09/developer_interview_black_forest_games_on_bringing_giana_sisters_twisted_dreams_to_wii_u 1. The Wii U has some PC-like dx10/dx11-like systems like geometry shaders 2. On the tech side, having DX11 level features is pretty useful, which makes large parts of the system compatible with our other platforms. And here's another from NeoGaf from last year: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=42009722&postcount=1400 Per nintendo's docs the GPU's API "GX2" Supports some features greater than SM 4. SM4 is just given as a point of reference. Ill post the detail later when I have the time. Unfortuately, I don't think he ever posted just what exactly was shown to be greater than SM4/DX10.1 equivalent functionality. I wouldn't be surprised if it did have some newer features. |
Nice research.
What I really don't understand is why you still waste your time with ninjablade?
Please let's just wait for his forever ban, beacuase Mario Kart 8 > 1080p60fps. Bayo2 is not confirmed yet

@Bold LOL that thing isn't anything like Brazos or Llano otherwise why is the CPU and GPU separate compared to those processors having their GPU's integrated on the die.
What part of "tessellation and depth of field aren't automatically handled by the WII U's API" this time did you not understand. I said that every developer would need to impliment their own solutions by modifying the engine to allow such features.
Sorry folks, but there is literally zero argument against this sentiment.
Look at Shadow of the Colossus. Weakest hardware then gen, yet one of the best looking games. Case closed.

You at the start of the year: "Multiplatform games will continue to look worse on Wii U."
Need for Speed Most Wanted U comes out shortly afterwards, looks better, and runs smoother on Wii U.

People here seriously starting to get defensive/offensive about hardware ?
