Imgine it being done to Mario Party or Smash Bros.
Fragmenting a game is not a good idea IMO.

There is no logical reason why you would do that with either of those games, they don't lend themselves to such business models.
The Sports series on the other hand does though I don't think fragmenting is a term that applies here. I'd say it was fragmenting if you for example had to get a certain high score in Bowling in order to unlock a mini game in Tennis, requiring you to purchase both games for the full experience. This is however not the case. Every sport can stand on its own, mini games, leaderbords, local and online multiplayer, the whole package, a complete game.
If Nintendo had released a sports game a month and then announced that all those sports games were getting online and they would all be part of the same online community a lot of people would probably change their opinion.
That said, I believe Nintendo will eventually come with a bundle pack, they'll roll out sports every couple weeks/months for a while, until they have enough to justify a full game price tag. In the trailer you can also see that it says "Download Version" instead of something more excluding like "Only available on the eShop".
How $10 per piece of a game from last generation that came with the system is a good deal is still a mystery to me.
I'll have what you're all smoking.

First off, Wii Sports didn't come with the Wii U. Nintendoland came with the Wii U, and Wii Sports came with the Wii. Second, $10 does seem a little too much, but putting the graphics in HD and adding Wii Motion+ fuctionality and free online servers isn't somehow magically free for Nintendo. If it was on Sony or Microsoft's console, they may or may not be cheaper, but you'd definitely be paying extra just to play them online. Third, if there's a sport you know you'll only play once or twice ever, then pay $2 for 24-hour access. Anything else you'd like to troll about?

Troll !? LOLOL
This is just all disappointing.
Wii Sports Club needs to have a physical release with a Nunchuck included, similar to how they did Wii Play.
Nintendo suddenly announces this without warning. Damn, I'll have to get myself 2 or 3 sports, Tennis, Golf, and probably Boxing. 10$ for each may seem like much, but they did make the game HD, added in new features, and implemented online play...I don't think that all comes for free.
Wouldn`t mind seeing a third option: the full game for a smaller price.

| KungKras said: A I see. I missed this thread. Seems Nintendo really likes to butcher their top selling games. That business model is awful. I hope they make it a full retail package once all sports are out. Online is welcome though, and I get why they are doing this. They are starting to understand what the Wii U needs, but need to get something out really fast. Hopefully a full new "U Sports" is being worked on. |
Sums up my feelings actually. On the one hand it's seems someone in the company is beginning to see what Wii U needs. But on the other hand they are half assing it. A New Wii Sports game is what should have been made and the fact all they have to show is an HD up-ressing of an old game and charging that kind of money is bull shit. They spent resources on HD WW and Pikmin and nothing for the biggest system seller of all time. Hopefully a new game is being made, because as of now the Wii U is a huge dud.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

It will probably be 5 sports for $40 after they release them all. Its kind of hard to sell you the full game before its released. And i dont think they want to announce something like that now as it would lower the initial sales
