The Vita has got arguably the best lineup of current hand held devices especially as far as 2013 releases are concerned. It's just there is a total lack of awareness and constant shower of bull being spouted from 3DS fanboys perpetuating the belief. |
Wat?
I agree with you that 'no gamez' is wrong. But of the two current handhelds it has not the better lineup. Not 2013 or overall. That's just delusional.
Hardware wise, it is a little lacking. There are phones now with 5" screens with 1920 x 1080 resolution and quad-core processors. These blow away the PS Vita 5" screen with 960 x 544 resolution. Luckily for the Vita, hardware isn't everything.
These are the top 10 games on the PSP:
1. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - 7.51 million
2. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - 5.37 million
3. Monster Hunter Freedom 3 - 4.87 million
4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories - 4.79 million
5. Daxter - 4.08 million
6. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters - 3.65 million
7. Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition - 3.59 million
8. God of War: Chains of Olympus - 3.10 million
9. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - 3.08 million
10. Gran Turismo - 2.83 million
These games were exclusives and not ports from other platforms. Since the market for the Vita is similar to the market for the PSP, all of those franchises should be available on the Vita. There are great games on the Vita, but none of them have really been huge system sellers. It needs more games like Uncharted. I know there are more good games on the horizon, but I don't see any huge system sellers. I am also surprised that they don't have a Gran Turismo game that can share car garages with GT6 like they did with the PSP.
The price cut has helped, as I saw many stores without stock. Heck, I even ended up picking up a bundle (3G model with Gravity Rush, Unit 13 and 1 year of PS+ for $199 was too good of a deal to pass up).
The "second screen" feature promoted for the PS4 looks really good. I am really hoping that Sony comes through with this, as it will mean my wife can take over our TV but I can keep playing :) If Sony markets this well, it can help push more sales along with the PS4.
A steady stream of AAA games and dropping the price (or making the memory card included free) would definitely boost sales but I don't think Vita would ever sell enough to be considered truly successful. Could at least be decently profitable though if those happened.
| BlowoverKing said: I refuse to beleive these numbers are accurate. They may not be as high as I predicted (37k) but they sure as hell aren't below 10k. But if they are actually below 10k then fuck Sony for not advertising the Vita at all. The Vita actually has a better lineup the rest of the year than the 3DS but nobody will know since they're won't be a single ad for any of the games. |
...ehhmm...No ?

The price cut will obviously provide a temporary boost, but that's about it. It's time to put some numbers along your words. How much is the Vita going to sell in the USA in November and December, and what is its baseline in 2014 going to be? |
Boo ! That´s not how one is allowed to use sales numbers, they are only there to:
1. prove how awful the WiiU is doing
2. compare the 3DS unfavourably to the original DS
....duh !

Are you sure you have enough qualifiers there? Maybe you should add a couple more just to be safe.
Gamers logic:
1) the vita is failing. No 3rd party will invest money in it (they'd be crazy to do so).
2) OMG! 3rd parties are stupid. Why don't they make games for WiiU?
And my favourite:
3) Vita has no games.
-Indies? They don't count.
-Uncharted: GA? I can play that on my ps3.
-Rayman Origins and Legends? Meh, multiplat, doesn't count (if it's multiplat, you're clearly not allowed to have fun playing it).
-Persona 4 Golden? Meh, port (because everyone and their mothers played the original and they can buy the ps2 version if they want to, since everyone is using their ps2)
-Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice? Meh, they didn't boost hardware at all (as if that has to do anything with their quality or budget).
Just because the vita is failing, doesn't mean it's not a good console or that it doesn't have great games. It means that the general public doesn't have an interest in it for several reasons. Sure, a gow, gta, grand turismo, red dead, bioshock, monster hunter game would help, but not necessarily because of quality, but because of the name itself and its brand power.
I wish people will come out and say, "you know what? I have no interest in vita, I will never buy it, no matter what is released, I could not care less as long as I see it failing." Because this is precisely how they feel and it shows. So, the next time you're about to say it has no games, either do some research or at least say that it doesn't have any games that interest you. Quality needs to stay out of the discussion, because you clearly have not played Soul Sacrifice or Gravity Rush and it's beyond silly saying that Pokemon is better, thus comparing a game which you haven't personally experienced with one that hasn't even been released.
(nothing personal against you, t-bone, though I do disagree with some of your arguments)

everybody has their own opinions
I personally just think it needs those games, those AAA to sell the system, like GTA/GoW/Gran Turismo/etc. Also advertise it, that tiny increase isn't noticeable, it would of been better to do a price cut this coming week with killzone+ Advertise the **** out of it. I really OVER predicted it with 35k(yeah i kno) in US whie others were settling 20k-25k and few with 15k-20k! How many days was the price cut for the week? 4 right?

Vita fan logic:
-Pretending that the Vita doesn´t have a lack of full sized retail exclusives (the Software that fucking seperates your device from every other platform on the market)
-acting like Sony is supporting the Vita well with...what? Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway and Killzone as firstparty titles THIS YEAR
-shoving a big list of games that can be found on anything else including your toaster in the face of anyone DARING to say that he/she isn´t satisfied with the current list of upcoming games
...but I guess thats all okay because of OLED !
