Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Will Still Function If Kinect Isn't Plugged In

Why is it stupid? I don't have a choice to not buy it. And I don't want to use it. So it stays in the box. Is that a problem for people? You like Kinect, great. I don't. So It just will sit in the box.

because liking to waste time on useless button mashing in countless menues just to say I'm not using it is stupid... simple as that... liking it or not as nothing to do with it.... if you take even a second more to do something without it it doesn't make any sens not to use it... simple maths really.... there are many things I don't like to do or use but I still do it or use it because it is faster or easier that way.... I hate public transportation but it is the fastest way to cross town so I use the bus when I have to....

looking at all the demos we've seen so far there is absolutely no doubt it will be faster and more convenient to use the XB1 with kinect rather than with the pad.... heck it is already true for some stuff on 360 and the console wasn't built around it... so yeah you are free to drive across town but it is not a smart idea....

Just as it is faster to point and click at the screen with the wii mote instead of using buttons? I've gone back to pointing the remote away from the screen and simply select things with a few clicks of the cursor keys, much faster and more accurate then pointing in the air. If only the main menu screen would support it too.

It takes longer to say a command and wait for voice recognition then it is to select it and press a button. Voice control only becomes more convenient if they make the menus unnecessarily convoluted (eg lots of add spaces to navigate through) or when you can't find the remote.

And there are lots of reasons why people might not feel like talking to their machines, ranging from finally some piece and quiet after the kids screaming all day to having the music too loud to be heard over top, or the wife is working on the laptop and would rather have you shut up. (Nothing more annoying then someone talking out loud with headphones on)

Anyway great news it's not needed to function, now it can work for everyone.

So... EVERYTHING they announced at the event in May, was a lie?

It seems they've done a 180 on just about everything they said back then, this was the last item that fanboys and haters had as ammunition against the console, and now it's been fixed... yeah.

lol... a "LIE"... Sensationnal :)
So at first you complain about anything they are planning and when they LISTEN to gamers and adjust things, they become "liars"...
You guys are killing me; I mean is there nothing good to talk about in other Sony threads and your precious console instead of spending the majority of your time flamming/bashing into the MS ones?

Ever hear the phrase, don't trust the dog that bit you? Just because Microsoft has reversed many of the policies, lets not forget that they tried to screw us over in the first place, therefor it is likely they are to do it again, perhaps incrimentally throughout the consoles lifetime.

The problem with that analogy is that they honestly thought that is what the consumers would want. They were wrong for the most part (after trying their best to convince said consumers) so they changed the policies. They were not trying to screw over consumers (well no more than any other big company tries to milk their customers).

And they won't be adding any of the DRM policies or Kinect required back into the X1 throughout the X1's lifespan. That simply will not happen for extremely obvious reasons.

I was expecting this to be announced at GC. I always thought they would do this sooner or later. I'm also expecting they will announce the family plan for digital sharing soon.

I see just one thing wrong with his post. He doesn't speak for everyone yet he's attempting to. Some didn't have a problem with their policies

Am I the only one thinking these PS fans trying to derail this thread must be the most spoiled brats around? Anything that does not fit in to their limited view of a gaming console must be evil and be removed. They represent and old group of gamers, struggling with the idea that the gaming community has changed, and they simply cannot accept someone like MS innovating and having a bold vision for the future of video gaming.

I am one of the people who thought having the ability of Selling, Trading, Gift, Sharing my digital content was the path forward and I was more than willing to leave disk behind for that future.  My only problem was the 24 hour restriction.  Even thought I have my console hooked up to the net all the time, 24 hours was way to inflexible for people who do not have such a ability.  Instead, I thought if MS stuck with their guns they would change that part and make it like Zune music where you only have to connect once a month.  Instead MS bungled the whole thing so much they had to drop it completely or risk to much negative momentun on release.

I guess Kinect wasn't important after all.
