theprof00 said: So wait...why hasn't this been officially announced? Is this going to be part of the day1 patch as well? What are the details? What does "any service that does not explicitly use the kinect" mean? What can you actually do without it? If this is a lie, this is going to be very painful for MS. I don't see how this could possibly be true. The OS itself explicitly uses it. |
1st: Do you need a press conference for that? 2nd: Nope 3rd: see press release 4th: Kinect games require Kinect. 5th: Everything, except playing Kinect games. Just like today on 360.
It is not a lie and the OS can be controlled with a controller as well. I agree that Kinect is way cooler for this though.

1. Nope, just someone with a name. We've heard plenty of contradictory statements from MS reps previously. Half of them don't even know how the system works. 2. Are you sure, because this "announcement" says "for some people (covering the kinect) wasn't good enough, so we're allowing it to be unplugged as well". If this is a change, and boxes are already in production, then it would have to be in the patch. The only other option would be that this has been possible from the start, which I would then point you back to 1., where they said it required kinect to function. 4. Well we also heard in a press release that family share allowed you to share with up to 10 people anywhere, and then another anonymous representative said it was for a demo, so obviously, vague statements like "does not explicitly use kinect" aren't going to fly. 5. See, when you say it, it's so clear and crisp and direct. Why can't MS just say that?
6. I agree the kinect is much cooler for OS navigation. But again, we've heard a lot of contradicting statements from MS previously. Like I said, either this is part of the day 1 patch, or MS has been lying about the kinect requirement the entire time.

2: pretty sure. What difference would it make? 4: That turned out to be fake. 5: Don't know, but I am ready to work in MS PR department for 70k Euros p.a. Can't do a worse job than the former ones.

2. Well if it's not part of the day 1 patch, and MS' original stance said "cannot be used", then logically, that would mean this news is fake.
4. Sure, that's fine. But still, MS never explained what was meant by the system, was removed for really no reason, and then later a rep said how great it was with limitless sharing of games. MS official response was that they couldn't keep the family share after the 180 due to the disc requirements etc, but it still doesn't explain why they didn't keep it for digital download titles. As of a few days ago, the new "family share" is "you can play your digital games on your friend's console if you log in", and "anyone playing on your console can play your digital titles". That's a far cry from the 10 person family share program. It's enough of a change, a warrantless change mind you, to say that it probably never existed in the way it was explained to us. It could have and should have been kept, it was a huge feature, and really something I would have bought an x1 for, because I'd just come on vgc, and form a group with 9 others and we'd all share our games. Would save me hundreds, which would more than offset the cost of the console.
5. I would be happy for you if you did. You definitely know a lot more than most (not being sarcastic)
