Forums - Microsoft - What happens if Microsoft drops the price for the Xbox One to $400?

Correct me if i m wrong isn't PS3 more expensive than 360 and still outselling it.. the only difference now will be earlier PS4 was touted to outsell Xbone 1:3 now it will 2:3.

The PS3 "got away with it" so to say, because of brand strength. The PS brand is strong enough worldwide for them still to compete at high prices.

I mean, Sonys worst console effort is still beating Microsofts best effort.

This is a luxury Xbox doesnt have outside of 2 countries, it is yet to prove it anyway...

yup I agree.. and the amount of good will and momentum gained by playstation brand in recent years especially this year.. will help the brand even more in the next gen and the whole negativity surrounding xbox one since its reveal is helping it even more... this whole scenario reminds me early days of PS3 and Xbox 360.. but it was other way around.

You can rationalize them tacking on the Kinect all you want, but Kinect will never matter in the grand scheme of things. Sony didnt bother forcing people to use the Move or PS Eye and this is why they will have an advantage. They are leaving it up to the consumers choice. If they support the Move and PS Eye people will buy the products. If they don't support it at least people have the pleasure of knowing they weren't forced to buy a useless product.

This seems like a contradiction...

"If they support the Move and PS Eye people will buy the products... If they don't support it at least people have the pleasure of knowing they weren't forced to buy a useless product."

If a device is bundled with every console, that encourages developers to support that device. Hence, Kinect 2 has more potential to get noteworthy software if its bundled with all consoles than if were optional.

Kinect 1 has had modest support and they've sold about 20 million units. Kinect 2 as a bundle will sell significantly more units and that will encourage stronger support.

They win the U.S.A. and United Kingdom barely and lose every where else. Winning in those two regions are questionable right now.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

lol it is a complete contradiction, MS will clearly support the Kinect hence bundling it at launch. So it can't be "tacked on" and "useless". But in his loyalty free logic he will think he made a good point.

It's also cute how apparently Sony could have had a big hit that rivals Kinect on their hands with the PS Move, they simply chose not to.

Theres zero contradiction...

I know force bundling will lead to more games, but thats going to cause the Xbone library to get massive shovelware if devs are warming up to motion controls. With Microsofts marketing prowess this has a great chance of happening. Dragon Ball Kinect anyone?

The best Kinect has to offer is truly in dancing games without a motion periphral to help it break 3D and exist in the world without rails.

Of course Kinect had had modest support even though it  sold 20 million units. Want to know why?  Kinect 2 being force bundled will sell significantly more units, but its not telling of demand if its forced. They claim the Xbone cant work without it, so essentially its not really a peripheral, its an active part of the system.

There was indeed a contradiction. Bundling helps create support there wouldn't be otherwise.

There will probably be shovelware. But most people will ignore shovelware and buy higher quality games. The good Kinect 1 games sold well, while many shovelware games either flopped or had modest sales.

I think you're also ignoring the improvments Kinect 2 has over Kinect 1. The improved accuracy will make more people interested in Kinect and that'll boost support.

It will sell better than it would at £429, but PS4 would still lead.

As I told you...It doesn't matter if the Kinect 2 can read through your soul, without controling the 3D environment you're basically doing the same thing in a concrete manner as the Kinect one. Sony preached this as the reason they turned down Primesense Pre-Natal. I'll say this a thousand times, you will see very little response and Ryse being a full game instead of still a Kinect game is a testament to this.

Sony didn't have the same vision as MS and that is why they missed out on the megaton success of the original Kinect. Instead Sony cloned something we saw before and the Move quickly vanished into obscurity.

MS said they want Kinect to be used to for new types of gaming experiences. Kinect has already given us experiences that can't be duplicated or wouldn't translate well to a gamepad or Wiimote style control. Hopefully the Kinect 2 will continue to bring innovation to motion gaming.
