Forums - Microsoft - What happens if Microsoft drops the price for the Xbox One to $400?

For me personally the $100 dollar difference doesn't really matter, as it is still a fairly large expense (for me). Whatever the price the X1 is a wait and see purchase, and that will greatly depend on other factors than just gaming enjoyment. Overall I just think the PS4 has better offering for me as a gamer in terms of games, gaming device upgrade (more powerful than x1), and services. Mostly I think the two companies are on fairly equal footing and not really any innovation being offered this gen. 3rd party games will probably look the same on both consoles for the first couple years, and maybe ps4 will look better after that point if it has a bigger install base. I mean MS can throw a fit about various issues with EA/ACTI/UBI but if the PS4 truly turns out easier to utilize/optimize for developers (and the biggest gen install base by a significant margin) then I would think that dev's would use ps4 as the lead platform and x1 as the ported version of 3rd party games. Honestly it would only hurt this gen if the x1 sold better in the key markets as MS would use that as leverage to hold back graphical capabilities on the ps4. I guess that last one is mostly speculative as we won't really know how great games look until they release and get at least a year down the road afterwards, but already the ps4 games do look better (subjective comment i suppose, but Killzone Shadow Fall was the most amazing graphics I saw as an exclusive, IMO racing games should be easier for graphics as less is going on the screen at once)

They would sell more systems but take more loss on each system sold.

Did i say the tablet was a good idea? No. I was just using it as an example. The Wiimote is another example of bundlling a unique peripheral to make a console more unique. Some ideas are successful, some are not.

"The Kinect does not make the Xbone unique. The Playstation has been using the same device for the longest." Wow, what a ridiculous statement. Sony has not made anything at par with the Kinect. I love when you say things like that, shows how incredibly bias you are.

I'm going to ignore most of what you said. Its just nonsense opinions.

This is the epitome of bias. Theres no way you can dispute that the PS4 is at an advantage because you can buy a PS4 with two games for the price of an Xbone. No way at all.

Sorry, I'm not being bias. I just I missed that point in your nonsense paragraphs. A $100 price difference is indeed an advantage for PS4.

Make your points in fewer words and keep your bias out. Otherwise people will ignore what you say and you just wasted your time.

MS is sacrificing the ability to price match the PS4 because they want to push Kinect. They could release a basic game machine like the 360, PS3, or PS4, but clearly they want to do something a little more innovative with Xbox One and Kinect 2. Even if that means PS4 will be the sales leader.

They would finish second

Wow, you really think the WiiU will win this gen?  Impressive.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Sony will cut the PS4 price

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I love how according to everyone here, if you have reasons not to buy an Xbox One you're being a whiny fanboy. Little known fact: people are allowed to not want a system for specific, legitimate reasons. Yeah, I know, it's crazy.

But to answer the question, it would sell a whole lot more units a whole lot faster. I still wouldn't buy it, though.

Agree

The Eye Toy wasn't amazing. And never seen Sony fans defending it. But Xbox fans seem to circle the wagons on anything Xbox. Right now it's Kinect defense.

I own a 360 and use it. But Microsoft didn't try and force me to buy a Kinect for the 360, so I had no issues. Now They are trying to force you to buy a Kinect and even further... use it. If you want to own an Xbox One, you must buy Kinect. If you want to play the Xbox One you just bought, you must use the Kinect.

I guess I am just a hater lol

They thought the Wii U would bring people towards them since the tablet market is growing at a rapid pace but failed to see that videogames only have a finite amount of use to them. They don't need it. The Wii was simple, a quick gimmick to enjoy with the family. The Kinect fed off the residue of that crowd which is why MS ctoninues to believe in the value that isnt no longer really there for the mass market. They are protecting an investment that is powerful but can only do so much when it comes to games and Sony pointed this out long ago no matter how hard they try.

The Kinect does not make the Xbone unique. The Playstation has been using the same device for the longest. The problem you're not seeing is MS got the mass market credit for something Sony started earlier and already dried up the value of.

MS if forcing Kinect down peoples throats and you know it. They are just protecting their investment. Xbox fanatics will buy it, plain and simple. Let them have it. I will have it if I get my Xbone later on. Its still a very attractive item which represents the American gamer (and I am not even sure they will win over all of those gamers back, the multiplat gamers are jumping back to Sony for sure in America).

P.S.

When this gen first started I and many others said that you could buy a 360 and a Wii for the price of a PS3 and that was true. Today I am saying the Playstation can be purchased with two games of your choice for just about the same price as an Xbone. Its a direct advantage, especially for gamers who care not for exclusives. They have any two games of their chosing and a more powerful console at a cheaper price.

Your Kinect = Eyetoy shtick is as adorable as ever. It doesn't matter how many times you bring that up, you're never going to be right.

They would sell more units and lose money on each unit sold, simple as that.

If that happens:
- MS will lose money on the XBO rather then make money
- XBO and PS4 will be much closer sales-wise (though I still expect PS4 to win)
- XBO fans will moan about how they arent paying as much and will make petitions to get MS to charge more.

Kinect is great, for some games and only some aspects of it, I believe it has the potential to make gamers feel more involved in a game.

For example voice control in End War (an RTS) was great (Even if it hated my Australian accent!).
Voice control in Mass Effect 3 was great.
I could imagine using the Kinect's motion control for a game such as Black and White. (MAKE IT HAPPEN MICROSOFT!) - Where your hands are the Mouse cursor/Hand of God.

However with that said, I don't want it "tacked on" in every single game just because they can, it has to be done right and if they can do that, they might change allot of mindsets with console gamers.
It's a big gamble, one that will either fail miserably or be a massive success.

Would I rather them drop the Kinect and throw more money at the hardware or lower the price? Of course, I'm forever on a quest for better graphics and more performance, which is why i am happily part of the PC gaming master race.
