Forums - Microsoft - What happens if Microsoft drops the price for the Xbox One to $400?

Hypothetically, it would sell more. Problem is MS isn't willing to risk the fact that the Kinect 2.0 might not naturally catch on with the gamer and casuals the second time around without force. They are forcing the experience upon you because they must protect the investment.

It goes like this:

Essentially you can buy a PS4 and two games for around the cost of the Xbone by itself.

Why does Nintendo bundle a tablet with Wii U? Its not because they're afraid people won't buy it, its because they wanted something that made their platform unique.

Kinect makes the Xbox One a unique platform and bundling it with all consoles encourages developers to take advantage of it.

To make up for the price difference MS really should bundle it a game. That would be much cheaper than doing a price cut.

Sell more :P

People on the net will still downplay it but they wouldn't have brought the console anyways

I love how according to everyone here, if you have reasons not to buy an Xbox One you're being a whiny fanboy. Little known fact: people are allowed to not want a system for specific, legitimate reasons. Yeah, I know, it's crazy.

But to answer the question, it would sell a whole lot more units a whole lot faster. I still wouldn't buy it, though.

It sells more than it otherwise would have. Lots of fanboys have hissy fits, especially all the ladies over at Gaf.

Yes, but... Wouldn't they find any reason to have them anyway?

I'd save $100.

The usual suspects would find new grievances.

The JoeSixpack/DonnaSoccermom's of the world - and those to whom pricing is a primary factor in their purchasing decisions - would be more likely to buy it over the PS4. "Because it's the same price and you get that camera thing and can skype".

A lot of PS fans would be very afraid.

Tee hee, I think you are right.

Early adoptors are going to get what ever they want to get.  It's the later ones that will really make the console numbers.  I think Microsoft still has a few more things to show with Kinect that will really expand their market.  So far, there isn't really any push on Kinect Gold Star Games that will make people go, "Yea, I want that."

They areally are different things.  The PS4 is a blu-ray-game-media machine.  The Xbox One is a talk it it listen back blu-ray-game-media-entertainment-video conferencing control center - that will probably also be your fitness coach, dance teacher, and kid's baby sitter in the near future.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

It would do much better but I still feel the PS4 would sell slightly better. If they did drop the price to $399 then I would definitely get one before I get a PS4.

I do not see the need to rush the price drop. Console prices always go down eventually. I rather have the price go down gradually rather than suddenly and the Xbox Division losing money on it.

Xbox One would sell better, though the PS4 would still outsell it. It would also be more bad news for the WiiU.

It does that, it has a shot.  As of now, it really doesn't have much of a shot.  Less powerful and $100 more expensive is NOT a good combo.  And if anyone is going to say "but but cloud" you better SERIOUSLY post an article somewhere that shows that it makes all the difference or you are just blast processing.
