Xbox One’s Kinect monitoring tech has had gamers and industry professionals tugging at their collars nervously since it was announced, but Microsoft has stated that it will aggressively challenge any government that uses the device to spy into our homes.

In a statement to The Verge, a Microsoft rep wrote, “Absent a new law, we don’t believe the government has the legal authority to compel us or any other company that makes products with cameras and microphones to start collecting voice and video data.

“We’d aggressively challenge in court any attempts to try and force us to do so.”

The statement follows concerns of Microsoft’s date sharing with the NSA and other government bodies via the US Congress-baked PRISM surveillance initiative.

Microsoft recently explained the nature of its data-sharing, following claims that it has relinquished data from Skype calls, SkyDrive accounts and other services to comply with legal obligations placed on corporations as part of the PRISM strategy.

I don't think "aggressively challenging" the government will work out too well. Hey Microsoft, how about you just let me turn the damn thing off when I don't want it. I don't care about your stupid TV features or voice recognition, if others do then that's fine, but why do you have to force everyone to have it on all the time?

So before Microsoft got caught, they gave away our information freely, but now they are going to stop?

This is fucking bullshit, when the government will give them the power to do what they want with Microsoft, Microsoft won't have a word to say. This is just a way to say we'll try, but we won't promise anything beside the fact that we're against it.....................

A simple way around this, would be to let people use the console Kinect-free. Already been over this. If you could just simply unplug Kinect there would be no problem at all.

You can navigate menus with the controller. You can turn the console on with the controller. You can play games with the controller. You can put Kinect into an "off" state.

There is no reason at all why it has to be plugged in 100% of the time. Let people use it when they want to.

You can turn it "off", though its still listening... That isnt off.
