Forums - Microsoft - Kinect: Microsoft pledges to “aggressively challenge” government spying

I hate it when MS tries to stop my sexiness from spreading out..

OH god this again???
and spy what??? who??? for what purpose???
no really tell me one thing the Kinect would be good for as a spying device that is not better achieved with other means already used today ????
to know what brand of chips a potential suspect eats while gaming??? know what kind of games he is playing with his buddy??? know what color is his couch and coffee table ??? what brand of soda is his favorite ???
no seriously I'll say it again, using Kinect as a spying device would just prove one thing! how freaking retarded and inefficient the government bodies are at doing their job..... in which case there isn't much to worry about.... they suck at their job anyway....

How sad that tin foil hatters, majority of which are not buying the console in the first place, have been so vocal about this that they have to make a comment about it.

lol... I think most people know that using kinect as a government spying device is pretty ridiculous but it doesn't change the fact that it makes people uneasy. Microsoft should just dissuade all our fears by allowing kinect to be disconnected from the xbox.

tsss even PRISM shouldn't be of any concern for most people. It's just the media stretching the truth as usual. It's not like with or without PRISM anything changed for 99% of the people, the only one that are concerned are high profile suspects, and high profile politicians, and their family, that's it.
And those people should be smart enough to be more careful anyway it's not like the NSA is the only one trying to collect information on them.
Bottom line the NSA scandal is about as relevant to the public than the water gate was, I'm not saying it's right or not (I actually believe some of it is necessary in some cases). But I am certain it is of no concern to the general public.
Heck anyway I'll even say that I like those measures actually, because every time a gov is trying to control or force something onto people, it pushes them to ever be more creative. Nothing any gov ever tried to enforce against the population will ever succeeded, there is always a way around it. So I'll never be worried by a gov decision, bothered yes, worried no.

I don't think "aggressively challenging" the government will work out too well. Hey Microsoft, how about you just let me turn the damn thing off when I don't want it. I don't care about your stupid TV features or voice recognition, if others do then that's fine, but why do you have to force everyone to have it on all the time?

They do.

You can turn it "off", though its still listening... That isnt off.

pretty sure you can turn it comptly off also the listing thing for the words "xbox on" are only when its in that stand by, sleep mode thing

I am pretty sure if a device is listing it is listening to everything and "xbox on" turns on the xbox, but the kinect is on always listening so what is done with that data...the question is why you should care...everything is monitored these days moving closer to police state.

I really don't care but hey some people do.

then again I am a minority so maybe I should care

Microsoft recently explained the nature of its data-sharing, following claims that it has relinquished data from Skype calls, SkyDrive accounts and other services to comply with legal obligations placed on corporations as part of the PRISM strategy.

So before Microsoft got caught, they gave away our information freely, but now they are going to stop?

Oh no, they are just going to cover it up better......

I didn't see "Xbox" in the origional statement.

360 kinect isn't touched and looks like X1 won't be either.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

So it can be used to spy on you?

No, it's only designed to spy on you.

360 kinect isn't used. They actually disclosed what they do divulge to the government, Outlook, Skype.....Xbox wasn't among them.

It's still Microsoft. Your XBL account is still a Windows Live account, and Kinect is an extension of it now.

What you're saying is nonsense. No offence, but if Crysler made seriously defecting 300's, would you be as willing to buy a Sebring? No.

Same with Microsoft, they've already proven to us that they can and will violate our privacy. Just saying "we won't do it again" doesn't mean it won't happen. Microsoft is much more likely to violate our privacy then any other console manufacterer as it stands ATM.
