Why do you question the tracking system? Are you claiming it's massively overtracked, somehow? If so, based on what? Beyond that, in the same post, you then say "if VGC is right" regarding the Vita.

Which is it?

That's what I mean. Is VGC right? I don't know. I do believe the PS3 is somewhat over tracked, probably around 300k, but Im not certain on it. I would say however that the PS360 are closer than it would seem on VGC. And my question with the tracking comes for Rest of World sales, really. I guess that's something we won't know to be true either way for some time, though.

Why 300K? Based on what? Yes, I'm on point, because I keep hearing these type of things with little to coincide and dispute our data. And this is for all figures and all consoles/games. Like a broken record.

Well, I don't know, TBH I haven't checked the figures that closely but it just seems about right. I mean, it's 13 weeks, right? So this means that the PS3 shipped on average less than 100k a week for this quarter, but it's been selling about 120k a week, according to VGC. So 25k x 13 is 325k. That's where my figure came from.

But as I say, it could be well off. It's just a thought, not a malicious one of course.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

You people better solve this mystery of PS3=360 and which one leads by 1 unit otherwise I will lose sleep over this!

Well, I think PS3 was slightly behind X360 till 30th of June, 2013. Let us assume PS3 FY13 shipment is just 0.9million less than its FY12 figures that means 13.0million shipped in the last 12 months.

So 63.9+13.0+1.1 = 78.0million < 78.2 million X360 shipment.

Anyway, now we are in August. Based on the sell through figures in July, I think PS3 currently has slight lead over X360 worldwide in shipments.

The issue with your guesses is, with only 13 million ps3 shipped it means ps2 shipped 3,5 million.

Given this was the final year of the ps2 and the previous year decline was more than 2 millions, a figure like that seems more logical : 6,4 million (FY 11) => 4,1 million (FY 12) =>  and if we apply the same pourcentage decline, more like 3,1 million ps2 shipped in FY 13.

This 1.1m really exposed Sony. It showed most of the shipments the past year were PS2. To go from 3.4 to 1.1??? It just corroborates what i said all along, PS3 wasn't shipping vastly more compared to past years as some would have us believe in order to overtake 360, when every measure of it's recorded sales (NPD, media create etc) were declining in that time.

The only defense Sony guys could offer was "well PS3 must be taking off in other, emerging markets". Despite that, oddly, these other markets never showed up for PS3 until Sony combined PS2 and PS3 shipments so we didn't have an accurate picture anymore. The more reasonable speculation is the PS3 simply was shipping less than in the past, and therefore is still behind 360.

I bet X360 has shipped and sold more than PS3 worldwide. There's almost no doubt after this new info. Of course, 99% of the people on the internet will fight to the death otherwise. But that doesn't make it not true. It is true. Just like PS4 reserves 3GB RAM for the OS despite people dont want to believe...

Just because the 1.1 mn equation came into picture after removing PS2, you wish to deem the guess work  of the emerging markets is the culprit here.

On what actually do you instantly base your bet that 360 is ahead "worldwide" after this 1.1 mn equation? 99 percent of the people analyze data that is open to them and relate to figures. As of now VGC has PS3 numbers leading 360 and it's a matter of time we get to know which one hits the 80 mn milestone. I guess staying tuned to that solves much of the issues lurking here upon guesswork.

Spare the PS4 RAM for now.

Now that is something :)

Ok so got it right with the mobile division finally in green! TV segment posting profit is something I wasn't expecting :D gaming division with a slightly bigger drop than I have expected it to be.

Overall really good numbers all around. Seems Sony decided to sacrifice marketshare in various segments in favor of profit, which I believe is the right path at this point. What I am concerned about are Vaio's, those recent box office flops, at least After Earth managed to offset the expense of both movies, Smurfs 2 should do better than that. Also the shipment numbers of PS3 and PSP/Vita are low, at least software sales were really good, much due to The Last of Us.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

good job etho, like to see these charts

mobile phones is the way it seems,i bought an xperia and tv's profiting it has been a while

gaming losing declining sales vita flopping and PS4 hit taking its toll, software doing well though

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

Nice to see all the big 3 profiting. I am surprised with the 1.1m figure though even if it doesn't inclue PS2 (it's discontinued, I dunno why they put PS3 + PS2)

awe well, small profit is still profit.

Better than I thought....
