Forums - Movies & TV - I just watched the Man of Steel. I have no idea why reviews are so mediocre.

Not really. People didn't bitch about the Dark Knight (or Spiderman 2), which was incredible.

Its not those same people. The knuckledraggers who complained about superman returns are the ones who are praising man of steel. These folks major complaint about superman returns was that there wasn't enough punching. In that sense man of steel delivered. Those folks could care less about silly things like pacing, character development, etc.... as long as there is punching they are happy.

I want a krypton prequel movie.. That part was the best of the entire movie.. Better acting, pacing, backplot then the rest of the movie.. It looked more interessting then the two hours that followed.. Which was average...

After hearing the reviews and a friend telling me it was terrible, I thought it was going to be bad. It was the second movie of a double feature at the drive-in, so I stuck around to watch it. It was not nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be.

I would say it was on par with Iron Man 3, Wold War Z, and the recent Star Trek. All recent blockbusters, all only ok, nothing really special about any of them.

3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)

PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)
PC - Command & Conquer Remastered Collection (1995/1996/2020)

Man of steel in IMAX 3D, and it was a good 3D movie.

This movie is NOT dark, but a lot of people say its dark.

Glad to see other people also like Iron Man 3 IMAX 3D & Man of Steel IMAX 3D. I didn't like Iron Man 2.

EDIT:

People got to remember that the first movie is sometimes used to set things up for real movies later on as direct sequels.....for example:

Star Trek (J.J. Abrams)

Dragonball Evolution

Just look at how "Star Trek Into Darkness" ended up like. So look forward to an easily better sequel with Brainiac as the Villian.

Batman will appear in Man of Steel sequel.

I came out of the movie extremely disappointed. You know movie is in trouble when half way through you are checking your watch. Poor character development combined with excessive use of special effects and action in an attempt to hide a really poorly put together movie. It wasn't the worst movie I have seen this year, but it definitely is down amongst them.

What was he going to do? Pin Zod down on the ground until one of them die of starvation? Zod was right - it's a fight to the death. There are no magic Kryptonian chambers capable of stripping his powers in this movie. Keeping him alive would only continue to put people in danger.

At the end of the day its up to the writers to figue this stuff out. I'm sorry but they could have easily come up with another way. Superman killing Zod was just lazy writing.

Now I'm not one of the people that thinks Superman should NEVER kill, that was not my problem with that scene. My problem was that moment hadn't been earned yet. That moment should have come at a later date, in a later movie. Going forward there is no reason for superman not to kill everyone as soon as they threaten a family of four. Also, the events preceding that moment, contradict that moment. Superman and Zod had been displaying wanton disregard for human life for pretty much the entire film and now all of a sudden superman must do the unthinkable just to protect one family despite showing zero concern earlier? If he really cared, why didn't he snap his neck sooner? Ridiculous.

Blatant disregard for human life? I'm pretty sure Superman blew his cover multiple times in order to save other people's lives earlier in the film. Isn't that how Lois Lane eventually tracked him down? Granted, regard for human life is something he grows into over the course of the film - he wasn't born a hero, but he ultimately chooses to be. The turning point being when he gives himself up to Zod - not sooner, not later.

If you're talking about where Superman and Zod's cronies typically fought their battles, I don't think Superman has much of a choice there either, unless the villans are supposed to be extremely stupid. If he's in a remote location, then smashing a few buildings is a good way to make him come and fight you.

Fact is, at the part where he fought Zod for the last time, there weren't many options. The whole "send them back to the Phantom Zone" plan didn't quite work 100%, so it had to come down to a fight to the death. Is that lazy writing? Predictable, perhaps, but I don't think that diminished the power behind the moment. I'm certainly okay with Superman

No - the part where he grabs Zod and flies through a small town destroying everything in his path.

I'm concerned about this now. Had Man of Steel not been such a borefest with boring characters and story and execution, covered in 50 shades of grey, then I would have had something to look forward to with this announcement.

Now we have 2 gritty, grounded in realism, very serious, very boring characters in a superhero combination which should have been colourful and exciting.

Christopher Nolan is ruining DC Comic Heroes by grounding everything in reality and grittyness. I don't want a Bourne version of the DC Superheroes and their stories, I want a DC version of them. If they managed to get the balance right with Avengers, there is no excuse for why they couldn't get it right for this.
