Forums - Movies & TV - I just watched the Man of Steel. I have no idea why reviews are so mediocre.

LOL reading movie reviews to decide which movie to watch.

Most of my favorite movies have low reviews. Most of the best reviewed movies are a snooze-fest.

Give us some examples.

And as you can see if you read the posts you will see that most of us have seen the movie and put down the reasons why it is mediocre.

Dont' feel like it. I never choose what movies I want to see based on reviews. EVER. I base it on the trailer and if the plot sounds interesting.

Some people are really picky. I'm not.

Its one of the best comic book movies I've seen in years. Snyder has made two of the highest quality comic book movies one can get in the form of Superman and Watchmen. Watch...his movies are never understood until they hit DVD or now Blu Ray.

- Inconsistent Dialogue
- Too many action sequences (dragged out too long)
- Poor character development
- Poor pacing

Superman Returns was the better film compared to Superman : Man of Steel

personally i'm tired of watching action films, so i didn't like it.

i also hated lois lane's role in the film. to me her importance (to both superman and to the entire universe for that matter) just seemed off.

why are superman and lois spending time kissing each other when the whole world is falling apart?

also, i don't think the action scenes were very interesting at all. person a punches person b through buildings. person a gets up. person a throws a truck at person b. person c punches person a through buildings. etc etc repeat repeat repeat.

i liked the movie up until superman shaved off his beard. it all went downhill from there.

It would be interesting to see sheldon cooper take on MoS :D

What we expected was a Superman Movie. What we got is a hero who tries to never kill, killing and ruining the franchise from here on out. If he is just going to kill anyone he doesn't agree with or doesn't want to hurt someone that wont leave much room for anything else to come later on if he follows the same path.

Whats sad is how some people love the movie simply because it has action, while having little to no story, no chemistry between Louis and Clark, a complete disregard for the character.
Lets forget how the character and story were butchered and just focus on the pretty effects.
Yes at first I was just happy we got a decent Superman movie but after thinking about it more we really didn't. What we got was a Superman that resorts to killing if only a few people are threatened. Whats he going to do when Lex Luther threatens the world? Just simply kill him like he did Zod in the first one.
Worst part of the whole movie is when he cant stop Zod from moving his head but manages to move it hard enough in the opposite direction to completely break it. If he could move his neck enough to break it he could have moved his line of sight away from those people and never resorted to killing.

Okay genius tell me this. He would have moved his head which would have left the family to survive. What would have happened next? Zod would magically turn into a nice guy and turn to Superman asking him to be friends? NO GENIUS! He would just continue on causing destruction and killing INNOCENT PEOPLE. DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW?! He killed Zod because he didn't have a choice!

No what you dont understand is he killed to save 5 people. Whats going to stop him from just killing any other enemy that comes before him? Oh Luther you want to set off a bomb and kill everyone? Dead.

No he didnt kill Zod because he didnt have a choice. He never even explored any other option.

You just dont get it. He is Superman. He does the impossible. He always finds a way, thats why he is Superman. He is better than your average human.

He only had to because that is how the story was written. They could have added kryptonite and had someone help Superman expsoe them to it and then him imprison them. He could have done what they did in the original Superman 2 that had Zod in it. Any writer that actually knew the character and what he stood for could have written a better way around getting rid of Zod then that. Why not bansih him to the phantom zone again?

In the few times Superman killed in the past, the odds were much greater than 1 family. Take any other plot from any other movie and Superman would just kill people before the second act to stop there from ever being anyone in danger.

I know Superman 4 is a horrible movie but even in that movie he manages to not resort to killing something just as powerful as him. If even the really bad ones can manage to keep his character intact, I see no reason the "good"ones cant

This is all you need to know about why Man of Steel has garnered such negative reviews...

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I found the movie to be outright terrible.

Character development was shit. As someone already put, he was like some boring fart floating through the film. At one point, I started to question if he was an android or something. Also, the dialogue was really awkward.

The action wasn't anything special. Shit blew up, people got thrown around, and some people got punched in the face. But I didn't see anything special about the choreography, and none of the action scenes were really epic.

And can someone remind me how it ended? I honestly forget because it was so bad.

Then again, I doubt its even possible to make a Superman movie that I would find enjoyable.

I felt the same way until a few years back when I actually read some of the better superman books. Thought he was an overpowered boy scout, but there are stories that have gotten it right. I actually quite enjoyed Superman vs The Elite. Its an animated movie but it has much better writing and dialogue than Man of Steel. It also proves that superman doesn't need to kill even when it seems like the only option - he can also outsmart his enemies.

Based on the complaints, MoS's detractors wanted another Superman Returns. Yet when Superman Returns released these same people wanted a movie like MoS. It's like Nintendo syndrome, no matter what they do. People bitch that they aren't doing the opposite.
