Forums - Nintendo - Are Pikmin 3 FW sales proof enough for you that the Wii U is not doomed?

I think consoles are done in Japan period. Nothing will "dominate" that market, Wii U will sell like the GameCube, the Wii Sports/Fit boom was a temporary 3-4 craze in Japan that faded away.

The next Nintendo game machine will be a console/portable hybrid probably specced similarly to the Wii U, just entirely portable.

How, pray tell, can a console be a "console/portable" hybrid, if it's "entirely portable". Doesn't that just make it what the name impies? A portable?

And though it doesn't really need to be said, again, I don't think Nintendo is getting out of the home console market anytime soon. Even IF Wii U only sold as well as GC or N64 lifetime, they've got Scrooge McDuck money sitting in the bank thanks to the Wii.

I think it is great that the game is selling well, I adored the gc games! I don't however think that this is an indication of the wiiu doing any better at retail, pikmin 3 is one of only 2 or three really good quality games on the system so i think many people with a wiiu will jump on it if not for the games quality for lack of any other compelling titles.

It's been widely speculated, but I imagine it would be a device that is fully portable but can also wirelessly transmit it's video signal to your television so it can function as a home console as well. Basically the reverse of the current Wii U.

It doesn't prove anything, really. 22k is still really low and its unlikely to maintain even that level of sales. The game itself is also unlikely to have legs as it isn't a very popular IP and the install base is too low to support it.

We've seen it with Vita. It gets a semi-big game once in a while and it gets a nice boost only to drop back down to "normal" a few weeks later. What's the next biggest Wii U release that can actually make any sort of difference?

That's what I wanted to say. Vita has shown similar patterns, good boosts only single big titles but fell back after some time. Anyways, as the end of the year looks a bit better games-wise I think the WiiU can stabilize on a higher niveau. But not high enough to be a substantial hurdle to the PS4 or XBOne to overcome in sales.

the ps4/xone will have their share of struggling. it will be incredibly hard to overcome wii u sales.

It might be possible, that they struggle too. But if they have difficulties to overcome the numbers of WiiU we look at a desastrous gen.

Uhh yeah people spend more money for bigger numbers all the time!  Are you kidding lol?  (Not saying they are always smart to, but come on they do)

More must have titles in 2014?  The PS4 has: The Division, MGSV, The Elder Scrolls Online, Dragon Age 3, FFXV, The Witcher: The Hunt, Diablo III, InFamous, and whatever other first party titles they haven't announced yet (I would guess at least 2).  There is no way Nintendo will match this list of games.  Fact.

I am not dissing the Wii U, but some people really need a reality check; No offense (And I mean it).

No offense taken and i kid you not. But what you consider the smart thing might not be the smart thing for other people in different circunstances.

Those PS4 titles, a good part are on PS3 aswell or the PC and some are not a given release for 2014, in particular the division and FFXV.

Think of it like this: the smart thing is to play good games and pay the least money. Both the Wii U and the PS4 have potencial for great games and the Wii U simply has more high profile titles announced for next year and a cheaper price. X in particular looks to be the most impressive. The smart thing is to buy a cheaper Wii U next year for the great titles coming out for it and a PS4 at christmas or 2015 after a price cut. It cant get smarter than that if you're a gamer.

I dont know where the need to buy an HDD comes from to be honest. Its the first i heard about it here in this thread. I am pretty sure most Wii U customers dont bother with that and make do with the 32G.

Steam.

Also more people know about GTAV than all of the Wii U games combined!  Is it on PS3? Yeah and that still isn't the Wii U.  Actually by your logic everyone should just get a current gen console instead of a Wii U.  And that is correct because that is what people are doing.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

So kind of like a PSP? it does the same thing, except you need a TV wire.

For this year, yes it is. More specifically the ps3.

As for the PC and steam, that is a different can of worms.

I read that same crap you're saying two years ago, except it was about 3ds.

Yes because the 3DS is a HD console, and had a serious game drought for a year then just as games were starting to show for it, two other handhelds of better visual quality and tremendous hype released, didnt they

<_<

3ds had a 6 month drought with lots of idiots saying things like "looks like the 3ds savior is in another castle, zelda didn't help, wich is next?". and another handheld with better visual quality and same price and suposed to be the mesias for sony fans was about to release. it's pretty similar actually. the differences are the extended drought for wii u as well as the competitors releasing for $100 and $200 more respectively and with less hype over them.

I meant it will be hard for them to surpass wii u sales in general, not week on week for the first year aligned launches (but even then at least the xone will probably get pretty close or do even worse)

no, he is saying ps4 doesn't offer a lot that the ps360 don't right now, so those who already own a ps360 have no reason to upgrade imediately. wii u on the other hand already have plenty of exclusives for 2013 and 2014 and thus, is a better option for entering the 8th gen.
