Forums - Movies & TV - Why did you skip "After Earth", with the greatest Black actor of all time in it, Will Smith.

Because Will Smith is not the greatest black actor of all time.

Around the Network

Will Smith is the most charismatic black actor of all time (ranks high up there up against almost any other person regardless of color really) and has raked in more box office dollars than any other black actor, but is he the best? Thats debatable. The downfall of this movie is a shitty script and his son being in the movie.

It wasn't a total bomb it made more then its budget overseas. Also Denzel, Samuel Jackson and Jaime Foxx are better then Will Smith and in some ways even Terry Crews is better then him since he is one of the best pitch men of all times those Old Spice adds with him are legendary and in many ways better then what Will Smith has ever done.

Did Morgan Freeman change his name to Will Smith?

Also, I ignored it because:

1. was universally panned and defecated on by critics.
2. I cannot sit down to watch a movie about a 14 year old kid trying to prove he can be a "legendary soldier".

Terry Crews is nowhere in Will Smiths league. He's good for a laugh, but its mostly at his own expense. He's laughing all the way to the bank though. He worked hard to get to the top. I remember when he used to be on Thunderdome.

Jamie Foxx is the only person on your list that can out act Will Smith based on his track record of variety.

The greatest black actors imho are Don Cheadle, Jamie Foxx, James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne and yes Will Smith has to be at the end of this list.

Denzel should be on the list, but he only really plays one type of role in every film no matter how different the script is his character stays the same, kind of like Terry who always plays the jackass.

Chris Rock is the coolest black actor.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I didn't see it because it looked like an absolutely terrible movie.

You can add to the fact that it was a vanity production. Double that it was a vanity progeny production. Then add that it appears to be a thinly disguised vehicle for a particular religion. Add some more, that it ran so many in your face adds that you could not escape from, anywhere. (It’s never a good sign to see many, many adds before a movie – it means the studio has no faith in it.) Plus, the digital effects looked even worse than the last Indiana Jones movie – seriously things can look better on an early 90’s Commodore Amiga.

Plus, I would describe Will Smith as a ‘not usually so terrible’ actor. Interpret that – he can be in a movie and not ruin it. But I would in no way call him a good actor, regardless of what his race may be. Nor, would his name on a movie make me want to see it. Usually, it is the opposite as his involvement in the productions often ruin great works of art so he can ‘look better’ in the role.

If you enjoyed it – great, happy for you. I might watch it someday if I can do so for free. But not really looking forward to what has been called “Battlefield Earth 2 – After Earth.”

TL/DR – I didn’t see ‘After Earth’ because it looked awful. Bonus all the other stuff by not supporting it.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Actually he hasn't raked in more box office dollars than any other  black actor  , eddie murphy , morgan freeman and samuel l jackson have raked in more with Samuel l jackson holding the all time crown regardless of race .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Critics be damned? All 29,000 of them on IMDB with a 4.9 average?
I didn't like Will Smith in Hancock, nor in I am Legend, last time I enjoyed him in a movie was I, Robot.
Anyway the premise of the movie doesn't sound very exciting.

Denzel has played a wider variety of characters then Will Smith especially since he never was in any sequels and probably never will appear in any sequels.  Will Smith will mostly be know for sequels by the time he stops acting.
