I didn't see it because it looked like an absolutely terrible movie.
You can add to the fact that it was a vanity production. Double that it was a vanity progeny production. Then add that it appears to be a thinly disguised vehicle for a particular religion. Add some more, that it ran so many in your face adds that you could not escape from, anywhere. (It’s never a good sign to see many, many adds before a movie – it means the studio has no faith in it.) Plus, the digital effects looked even worse than the last Indiana Jones movie – seriously things can look better on an early 90’s Commodore Amiga.
Plus, I would describe Will Smith as a ‘not usually so terrible’ actor. Interpret that – he can be in a movie and not ruin it. But I would in no way call him a good actor, regardless of what his race may be. Nor, would his name on a movie make me want to see it. Usually, it is the opposite as his involvement in the productions often ruin great works of art so he can ‘look better’ in the role.
If you enjoyed it – great, happy for you. I might watch it someday if I can do so for free. But not really looking forward to what has been called “Battlefield Earth 2 – After Earth.”
TL/DR – I didn’t see ‘After Earth’ because it looked awful. Bonus all the other stuff by not supporting it.
