Zing!  Ten points for Gryffindor. (Plus this gen’s DVD drive can push more data per second than the Blu-ray. )

Plus, you can put up to two 16GB flash drives.

Actually, I makes me wonder when they are coming out with a 500GB drive for the X360 E, but that might confuse people with the Xbox One.  So perhaps never?

Actually you can use two 32GB flash drives.

I wish MS would just let us use external hard drives for downloads on the 360. You can use an external hard drive for downloads on the X1.

I thought you can use two 16GB flash drives which would then give a total of 32GB ?

I was wondering can't they do multi layers on DVD9 ????

well anyway.... this is really a non issue.... IMO.... if you have 60 bucks for a game I'm sure you can save up 10 more for a USB key by launch now that you know.... and I don't know why but I don't see the kind of crowd that buys GTA being the same that bought arcade XB 360.....

DVD9 holds about 8.5gb data ??? so since there is an 8gb mandatory install for both formats. I'm sure they are already using dvd9 for the 360 version.

But it looks like it's going to be about 16gb game in total.  8gb data install for textures and sound etc and the other 8gb dvd is the actual data game disc if that makes sense.

the (modern) 360 disc can hold up to 7.95GB of game data, the rest is reserved for anti piracy measures.

Of course 16GB would be the absolute maximum (on 360. It can very well be bigger on PS3 and PC). While one of the discs is already confirmed to be 8GB, I don't think that the second disc will be maxed out.

yeah I know.... but I thought it was 8.5gb on a single layer.... my bad
thanks for the info

Nay, they raised the cap to 32GB per USB stick. So a total of 64GB.

This is an incredible feat on Xbox 360 given the apparent size of the game. The 8gb install for both versions is annoying though. But blu-ray paid off in the end.

No, the PS3 version will still have a mandatory install. Thus showing how unnecessary Bluray was.

No, Blu-ray was worth it. Every game is on one disc and doesn't have to suppressed to fit onto the disc. It only made it cheaper for next gen anyways. Also, i don't think many of the PS3 exclusives would have been as good if it weren't for blu-ray. In fact, i think blu-ray is more necessary than ever before. I mean even Microsoft is adopting it with the next console. In the long term, it was more than worth it.

Prove PS3 exlcusives wouldn't be as good if they were on DVDs. Oh right, you cant.

Bluray still isn't required for the next gen. We could install games off DVDs. But it makes sense to use Bluray now because its cheap technology.

Games are alot bigger in terms of Gigabytes now than before because of much more detailed graphics and bigger worlds and so DVD isn't ideal anymore. In the 6th generation, the space on a DVD was plenty but barely enough in the 7th generation and would be pointless in the 8th. DVD's hold 8gb while Blu-rays can hold 50gb. A huge difference.

DVD was sufficient in the 7th gen. Most games fit on a single DVD. Only on some occasions you needed to swap a disc or install some data. Mandatory installs were common on PS3 regardless of massive disc space.

I'm hearing PS4 and X1 games need to be installed. So using Bluray over DVD just means we won't be swapping discs for that install.

Either way, this is a pointless argument. MS proved Bluray wasn't essential for the 7th gen. You say otherwise in spite of what MS demonstrated.

Yesterday, after a hard day of work, I went home to play The Last of Us. The PS3 went on and to my surprise, the XMB showed Just Cause 2 as playable title. My kid must have been playing during my work. So I had to painfully stand up, make two steps to the console, get the JC2 disc out of the console, search the right spot for it in my game case which has hundreds of games in it, alphabetically ordered, search TLOU in the case, which probably might be on the wrong spot, as the kid likes to "forget" what I tell him, (ok it was on the right spot) and then pop it in and go back to the couch. It was an akward moment.

I'm hoping that you are ok. I really hope this never happens to you again. Something like this should happen to no one.
