Forums - Gaming - All that extra power won't make 3rd party games look better on PS4 than Xbone.

I reserve the right not to buy a next gen console.

I just do not have the self control not to....

The new Dark Souls and Watchdogs both have PC as their lead platform. Since it's so easy to port to consoles now, I can't really see the downside of using PC as lead platform.

Then again, I'm not a developer.

Darks souls 2 is really lead platform on PC? That's odd considering the first one got ported over a year later on PC and the port was bad.

Oh, happy day!

Because of M$'s release policy, which states:

"Titles for Xbox 360 must ship at least simultaneously with other video game platform, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available. If these conditions are not met, Microsoft reserves the right to not allow the content to be released on Xbox 360."

So basically if the game leverages the extra power of the other platform to have better features or look better, M$ won't allow it on their platform. This is just sad. I hope 3rd parties really stand up for themselves and call BS on this since they are the ones who wanted all the extra power, but sadly that probably won't be the case and we will be stuck with identical 3rd party games for both platforms even if one platform is superior than the other. The only way this could change is if PS4 greatly outsold the Xbone, but we will have to see.

Feature and content parity doesn't mean performance parity

Good point. If a console can have better frame rates and graphic fidelity, then it should provided it's not too difficult for devs. But then again engines are quite scalable nowadays, so maybe that shouldn't be a problem. It's just that current gen games have pretty much looked identical on both platforms in recent memory which made me think otherwise.

There are a few games on PS3/360 that ran or looked worse of 360 (FFXIII comes to mind). Microsoft won't limit games if it means PS4 getting console exclusives.

Meh couldn't care less really. As long as the XBO doesn't give me inferior multiplats like a lot of PS3 multiplats this gen then I am good to go. I doubt we won't see benefits on the PS4 if the extra power matters though. There were games on PS3 that looked and ran better on PS3 than 360 this gen. Portal and the Final Fantasy games come to mind, and that's despite the policy measure you highlighted.

Point .... if we see little to no difference on the PS4 version then I'm inclined to think it's not the policy at fault, but we'll see. It would be interesting to see if the PS4 is the lead platform this gen though.

Either way I plan on getting both so I'll get the 'definitive' version on whichever console. Poor Wii U lol

Can't they get away with small visual and performance improvements like better AA, better textures etc. and steadier frame-rates?

That doesn't add any features or subtract any content.

This. They'll definitely be able to get away with it, as it's not really considered content.

That policy is ridiculous, especially considering how much money Microsoft spends trying to pull the same crap on other platforms. It's not something they're likely to enforce, they won't refuse 3rd party support over something as silly as that, especially if the game is a system seller.

Easy solution: Make the games exclusive to the ps4. ps4 sells alot more, no revenue lost, visions become reality and microsoft get a finger where they deserve it again.

This is the kind of strong-arming that makes me not like Microsoft as much. I mean, most Devs wouldn't do a PS4 version better unless Sony paid them to (and they won't), but they do that a lot.

Nice try, but this graph doesn't take the infinite power of the cloud into account, so try again xD
