Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo’s Silent Victory at E3 2013

I liked to focus on games - I agree mostly - I'm just still mad they hyped up Retro Studios for no reason at all

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

And we should care because? Where do you people find these noname vlogers?

OT: no... it was pretty much dissapointing and confirming what most of us knew already: there is barely any 3rd party support for the U and if this year the Ubi multiplatforms wont sell ( and believe me, they wont) its game over for any major, western 3rd party support in genera. EA left them, Activision left them, T2 never even tried and Ubi is giving them 3 games, that all will sell far better on rival platforms. Hell I wouldent be surprised if rayman Legends will sell more on the Vita...
When Nintendo comes out with a 3DS title as their main,  3D, consle Mario, you know that there is something wrong with the company.

Because even though he states it in a loud and obnoxious voice, he's right, the U will have the best value of the consoles with the best exclusives as usual.

I'd say their real silent victory is with those E3 Best Buy demos they had. Afterall, it's not being talked about much despite them being the best thing about their E3 and arguably all of E3. So many articles I've seen on E3 just completely leave out the BB events. A silent victory indeeds!

It's not a bad idea to bring E3 demos to more people, but from everything I heard it was pretty much a gong show at Best Buys trying to get a chance to play, it was often one demo unit for all the games combined and way too many people around. I heard a lot of stories of people just leaving because it would take too long to play.

They should just have let there be playable demos for people at home for a 2-3 day period via digital download.

They don't do this cause the demos wont work without all the physical components including more than the Wii U itself, and downloadable demos would reach out to far less people, all of whom have Wii U's already so it wouldn't be worth all the time and resources.

But yeah, it definitely coulda been ran better. Having to sign-up is pretty dumbs. Shoulda just been a line, much better that way. Luckily my Best Buy realized this on the second day so everyone who showed up was able to play and I even got to play multiple times. Though yeah, I doubt everyone's Best Buy were as smart as mine so I can see where many are coming from. Of course, we also have to understand that this is the first time Nintendo or anyone has done this, and we should be grateful they're atleast giving us a reasonable chance to experience E3. I'm sure they will improve on this in the years to come, namely by having more kiosk and going with the line method first thing for all stores.

Less then 5 million people worldwide own a Wii U right now. So Best Buy was a great idea, and I think they try to do something with GameStop but couldn't set up a deal in time or maybe they use Nintendo Zone to give & take away the demos which makes more sense.

But I can see the Wii U having temporarily available demos next year for current Wii U owners.

Thats not how consumer vote at the moment and arguably not for the past 15 years. Your opinion is just that an opinion. Why do you think that the Wii tanked so hard as soon as the motion controll fad wore off? Exclusives didnt help it float afterwards, and the GC speeks for itself...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

I can not believe that these Nintendo fans are in denial. Nintendo is not doing jack. There console will only be bought by the die hard Nintendo fans. It has under performed by millions and millions hence the reason Nintendo cancelled e3 this year. They are embarrassed by Wii U systems underperformance. They are wearing egg on the face because of this. So how in the hell did they win E3 simple, THEY DID NOT WIN by any measure. If anything they where next to invisible.

I agree. It should have been all business hours for all of the participating Best Buys through the Sunday after E3. Don't see why it had to be so exclusionary, as it rather defeated the point.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The Wii tanked because Nintendo stopped supporting it.  It was the lack of support rather than that the "motion control fad wore off".  GCN had low sales because Nintendo didn't make a system that differentiated itself enough from the competition.  It was superior to the PS2 in graphics but it didn't have a DVD player (back when DVD players were more expensive and semi new to the market).  N64 made the analog stick a showcase with Mario 64 and other games (with Sony releasing an analog stick for PS1 controllers shortly after).  So GCN had a decent amount of third party support but the hardware didn't have anything to differentiate itself from the competition.
