Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo’s Silent Victory at E3 2013

From what I gather Nintendo is kinda playing it safe with their IPs.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Nintendo's conference left me hollow. Nothing really new with that, I guess. They didn't win or lose, they simply existed.

The big problem I had was the same problem I had with the Sony conference. Basically, Nintendo seemed desperate to assure us that nothing would change, and we'd be getting the exact same games as was in the last generation, but in HD.

Ooh, a new Donkey Kong game. It looks just like the last game, but with better graphics.

Ooh, a new Mario game. It looks just like that one on the 3DS, but with better graphics.

Ooh, a new Mario Kart game. It looks just like the last one, except with better graphics AND track verticality.

Basically, these are all games that have, or could have appeared on last-gen, but with better graphics. No big Miiverse integration, no significant GamePad usage...just better graphics.

I hate the double standard people give Nintendo. "Games for those other next-gen consoles will just have better graphics, but Nintendo is awesome because they innovate." But when the chips are down, what does Nintendo have?

Better graphics...and that's it.

The Wii U does "full on Asymmetric Gaming" & the 3DS does "full on 3D gaming" with glasses-free 3D & Motion Sensors (3D controls) & Virtual Surround Sound Speakerphones & 6 speaker sound earphone jack (Surround Sound a.k.a. 3D sound).

The PS4 & ONE innovate less then the Wii & DS. But the 3DS & Wii U innovate more then the Wii & DS.

No, Nintendo approach to E3 was terrible, the press hated it, the general consensus from the what I've seen and from what I feel myself is that Nintendo completely diflates the power of all their announcements. Some feel that they didn't have enough to show for a conference but they did, they just should have refocused it! Non of their announcements were surprising but Nintendo has allowed people to overlook some of the best games in their line UP

They could've started on the 3DS showing off brief trailers of upcoming titles. -
-Bravery Default (western version)
-New pokemon trailer
-kirby
-Zelda 3DS.

Then transitioned from Zelda on 3DS to WinkWaker HD on the Wii U

-WindWaker HD small trailer
-Pikmin 3 trailer
-Wonderful 101 stage demo. This game has the best use of the touchscreen to date, show the damn thing off!
-Donkey Kong Reveal trailer
-Super Mario World 3D, with an entire 4player stage demo with miyamoto etc
-Smash Bros Wii U announcement trailer
-Beyonetta 2 live demo (the game looks freaking nuts, I wasn't wowed until I saw the E3 floor demo)
-Mario Kart 8 trailer
- X live demo!!!!!! They need to make a big out of this game, it looks 9 incredible , save it for last tell everyone to please be excited for slayage.

The POINT of the E3 ND was to show off Wii U stuff, not 3DS. The focus was on Wii U, as it should have been. And the only reason, at all, that some things "weren't a surprise", is because Nintendo had revealed/mentioned them in earlier NDs this year. If they hadn't done that, which you could argue they shouldn't have, then there would have been a lot of surprises. BUT, part of the reason they showed some of this stuff like Sonic, etc. early, is because of their release schedule drought, and them wanting fans to know shit IS coming. So it was a Catch 22 situation.

There's also the fact to consider that maybe they simply didn't have any of the other games they're working on ready enough to show, and they certainly won't be out this year, so why bother?

I agree with this, Nintendo has stated that they dont want to show off games too early anymore so the whole point of this E3 was to show games slated for this Holiday and the first half of 2014. Im sure they have alot of games in development that they could have shown but felt it would be better to save them for a Direct or E3 next year.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Victory sure, win no.

It was good to see that Nintendo have games coming, but lets face it we already know they got games coming.

Would have been nice if they revealed some new 3rd party exclusives or talked about more on their partnerships.

This is why I was disappointed. I can't see what beyond Nintendo sequels we will get on the system.

Nintendo surely won for me... Sony only showed like 5 exclusive games, microsoft did better than sony about showing games... Sadly enough, people believe sony had the best showing just because they announced that they will not block used game sells or use drm on their games (which it should be a given, not something to be ahppy about)... I wonder what would it happen if Reggie would have said, you know, we dont block used games sells, we dont use drm and we dont charge to play online multiplayer games! Same reaction? I dont think so...

Sony could easily react by saying PS4 is getting 3rd party support. The end result is the same though, Sony won E3 this year by a huge margin without even showing most of the 30 exclusives they have in development which just leaves gamescon and tgs to be very good.

I'm sure spending 12mins on the 3DS wouldn't hurt anysome. Anyways that wasn't really my arguement.

I wasn't saying Nintendo should of held back announcements from their previous directs, I was just sayin having a Nintendo Direct instead a press conference diflated the power of their showing this E3. Ultmately I think its the way in which they present titles that is holding them back, games like X, Beyonetta and Wonderful 101 should have been presented better, because its only after i stumbed across a few E3 demo's that I started getting excited for the latter 2. X could be a show stopper based on its scale alone but they need to demo it and make people go WOW. They can't keep treating games like Smash bros and Mario with the most priority, sure they'll sell systems but they are also known quantities. They need to push the newer IPs which they are releasing in the next year or so.

And we should care because? Where do you people find these noname vlogers?

OT: no... it was pretty much dissapointing and confirming what most of us knew already: there is barely any 3rd party support for the U and if this year the Ubi multiplatforms wont sell ( and believe me, they wont) its game over for any major, western 3rd party support in genera. EA left them, Activision left them, T2 never even tried and Ubi is giving them 3 games, that all will sell far better on rival platforms. Hell I wouldent be surprised if rayman Legends will sell more on the Vita...

When Nintendo comes out with a 3DS title as their main,  3D, consle Mario, you know that there is something wrong with the company.
