And the only reason, at all, that some things "weren't a surprise", is because Nintendo had revealed/mentioned them in earlier NDs this year. There's also the fact to consider that maybe they simply didn't have any of the other games they're working on ready enough to show, and they certainly won't be out this year, so why bother?

I agree with this, Nintendo has stated that they dont want to show off games too early anymore so the whole point of this E3 was to show games slated for this Holiday and the first half of 2014. Im sure they have alot of games in development that they could have shown but felt it would be better to save them for a Direct or E3 next year.
