I think iOS/Android is the perfect place for Nintendo to not only create new IP but to bring awareness to the mainstream. I think this is something Nintendo should consider.

one of the biggest strengths of Nintendo are the games, they cost almost exactly the same for years to come. And they sell still fantastic. nobody else can do that. If they put games on Smart Phones the value of their games would drop immensley.

I can understand why some people would like Nintendo to go 3rd party so they can enjoy Nintendo games without betraying their lord.
But, it's incredible naive to think that Nintendo going 3rd party will result in PS/Xbox/Mobile fans getting access to every Nintendo game. Just think about, Nintendo going 3rd party equals Nintendo games being up for sale. Platform makers will pay a lot to make big sellers like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. exclusive to their platform. I mean, you'll get a scenario where Pokémon and Animal Crossing ends up on mobile platforms only, next Zelda remake becomes a PS4 exclusive but the Zelda after that ends up on XBone together with Mario Kart. 3D Mario and Metroid goes multiplatform but with exclusive content for each console. And so on.

It would be a pain in the behind to get access to at least most Nintendo titles, and big Nintendo fans would be completely fudged.

That's sticking to your guns Mr. Iwata.

Apparently we live in a "bizarro" world where the game industry thinks that short-term profits are better than long-term profits. Nintendo is the only one where they're the weirdos who don't conform to the same asinine business strategies that's been screwing up everyone else.

Make expensive "blockbuster/AAA" software that needs to sell 1 to 4+ million units just to break even.

Spread/stretch your software so far, to the point where they start to lose their quality (ahemmegamansonicguitarheroetc).

Lure customers with expensive DLC.

Nintendo reminds me/you of that one stranger that came over the US by boat and brought this idea or thing from the old country with him/her. Then someone from over here thought they could make money off of this. As the years went by it was a huge success at the cost of the quality.

The video game industry is full of companies who are struggling to make profits, because their games are too expensive to produce and decrease in perceived value too fast, resulting in repeated permanent price drops on software. This has caused the industry to take drastic measures which have reached a new peak with the Xbox One's policies.

Yet for some bizarre reason it's always first and foremost Nintendo that gets questioned for the way they do business.

You are a hero.

I'm not saying they should put Mario or Zelda on the iPhone. I'm saying they should use the iPhone and Android market to experiment with new IP. These games wouldn't require years of development time or big budgets. They can be handled by a very very small team looking to create the next big thing for Nintendo. If successful then Nintendo can fully devote their resources to it and makes games based on it for 3DS or Wii U.

Interesting ideas. Do you think Sony should try something similar?

I don't see why not. Nintendo games are a better fit for mobile though.

It would be awesome to see Little Big Planet and games like Flower on the iPhone though. And Nintendo could put X and the Wonderful 101 on the Xbone, would be hard to see those done on mobile I'd imagine.

Iwata needs to go. Plain and simple. And design an smartphone or some kind of paradigma shift thing like the DS.

pwin´ every other villain since 1994

Nintendo's franchises will stay with Nintendo. End of story.
