But guyz, stock price will triple for a week if they go third-party.

The tactic pushed Nintendo to add a touch screen and an extra display to its DS, as well as no-glasses-needed 3-D technology to its 3DS, motion sensors to its Wii and a controller with its own display in the Wii U.

"The capability of smart devices is growing and what a game machine can do uniquely is getting more narrow if we don't do anything. So game machines need to expand into things that smart devices cannot do," Mr. Iwata said. "Once we can no longer think of anything, that's the point we can't continue the game-machine business."

This man is a lost cause.

I apologize in advance for my bad english.

"I understand the reality that there are some in the market who are more supportive of doing things differently than the way we are doing it," Mr. Iwata said. "If you want to make short-term profits from the stock price, then I am a very bad president. But I don't think I'm so bad for maximizing the long-term value of Nintendo."

He's self-aware.

Way too long. Can't be bothered to read.

Nintendo will be fine. They are just in an uncomfortable position right now. They can get out of it but its all about them figuring it out.

To put them back in a good position, they will have to add the Wii Mote back in each Wii U ALONG with the touch pad and bring the price to $249.99

The Wii Mote is/was superior to that game pad

It is what it is at the end of the day.

If Nintendo listened to developers, publishers and random media people in the past they certainly wouldn't be here right now!

Nintendo will be fine if Nintendo remains Nintendo ;)
Doing things differently...and better!

I agree kill everyone that wants short term profit. That is destroying every kind of economy on the whole planet.

People are treated as shit because of this etc.

Also third party on Nintendo does not work because they are lazy and want easy money. If for example Activision would not have abandoned Wii with ModernWarfare (just to came out with that game 2 years later) the COD boom would also have happened on the Wii.

COD 3 sold identical in terms of userbase/sold copies on 360 and Wii. The absence of MW killed COD on Wii.

And then trying ONCE to bring it back just to see MEH results and then give up is WRONG. People need to see that they are the reason why third party on Nintendo does not work beceause trying ONCE to give up and maybe trying again in a few years = NOT TRYING AT ALL.

And one has to expect short term loss to get long term profit thats basic economics. If you wont bother establishing franchises then there wont be any profit.

How in the world did you get that from his quote?  He is hitting the nail on the head on this one.

I think iOS/Android is the perfect place for Nintendo to not only create new IP but to bring awareness to the mainstream. I think this is something Nintendo should consider.

Honestly, i think Iwata has a point. But, im not sure Nintendo can keep up with Sony and Microsoft in their offers. I think that they should leave the home console market and focus on their handheld devices. A nintendo fully focused on a single platform would be richer to the gaming market besides making a kickass full of value portable device.
