Not to be a dick, but Microsoft has already shown it will launch a broken console. So It wouldn't expect a delay unless it actually can't ship the Xbox One

Yep, and they paid billions for it, lost momentum and customers.  I have it repeat twice would not be the best of moves and even MS learn for their mistake.  WIth the competition launching at the same time, it really would be stupid to put out on market a broken product.  So if the rumor is true, I believe MS will either have a big shortage if they cannot meet demand or they will release at a later date.

I see your point. And it's well said and makes sense

I think Microsoft knows just like everyone here knows that what hurt the PS3 the most was it release after the 360 (by 1 year). I think Microsoft would rather release a broken console and spend money to fix or replace it.

If not they would miss the holiday shopping season and launch at 3 to 6 or even 12 months after the PS4. Something Microsoft may see as a death sentence for their console

Well maybe this is indeed just an old rumor that resurfaced. Didn't MS promise that there would be no RRD fiasco with the X1.

Well this would mean Xbone might come in closer in performance to Wii U, which then makes PS4 the overpowered outlier and hence if 3rd parties start showing WiiU some love it means PS4 power gets underutilized by 3rd parties on multiplat titles. Unless of course PC is the primary dev platform in which case the devs will port to PS4 with a small to moderate downgrade, and then further downgrade to WiiU/Xbone level performance.

It still really comes down to whose exclusive library you prefer. And if MS is buying up some 3rd party exclusives it means they'll be looking for those exclusives to really deliver.

Reliability is a something on which MS can't afford to fall down. You can't release 2 systems in a row with a high failure rate and expect to sell big numbers. So powering down a bit to ensure low failure rates is totally worth the trade off.

I'm no tech expert, but doesn't the X1 have more advantages over the Wii U than just GPU speeds?  The X1 may be slowing down a bit, but the impression I've gotten is that it is still substantially more powerful than the Wii U.  Also, 3rd parties are looking at more than just tech; they're looking at sales as well.  If the Wii U fails to really take off saleswise, it might not matter that the X1 lost a little ground in terms of hardware; it won't be worth it financially to make a Wii U version of an X1/PS4 game.  My guess is that an X1 downgrade in clock speeds would only really affect the difference between Xbox and Playstation versions of multiplats, and I don't think too many people would really take notice of that unless the difference is REALLY significant (like 60fps PS4 vs 30fps X1, or something like that).  If all it amounts to is slightly better textures or a slightly more stable framerate, MS won't really suffer for it.

And yeah, you make a good point about exclusive libraries.  Microsoft doesn't need super powerful tech to come up with really compelling, creative experiences on their platform; their 1st party studios are loaded with talent and they will have great games that make good use of their new hardware.  Personally, I'd rather play a new Crackdown or a new Fable rather than a new God of War, even though the next God of War game will likely blow any X1 exclusive out of the water when it comes to raw visual spectacle.

I have to say, it doesn't really convey a good image of MS's designers/engineers if they have to create a large box to house the components, one that still has an external power brick, yet they are still having heating issues.

Well, for simple-minded people this might be true but if you take a look at the actual motherboard you see that the board-design is quite straight-forward and there is not really space left - I am curious to see the board-design of ps4.

@Otakugame

It would be nice and polute if you at least post a "Thank you" if people take their time to explain technology for you.

I want to believe it but I just DON'T there can't be a reason why MS can't engineer better cooling for its console. I understand that edram at 1.6 billion transistors makes things hotter but it shouldn't make things too bad. The alienware x51 which is just a bit bigger than the phat ps3 has a 2.5 tflop gpu and a core i7 cpu so why can't MS engineer for something that has prob. 2 times less tdp than the alienware? IDK but i'll leave it to being a rumor at best.

How much further can you downgrade the graphics though. People are already complaining about the lack of BIG graphical leap for next gen. Will people buy a next gen Xbox that has visuals on par (according to the eye test) with the 360. Then Xbox One would be a new 360 with more ram and TV stuff

Overall I think this is just a repitition of the old rumor but we'll see. It is obvious that such a big chip with APU *and* esram is a challenge to build. But a big "lol" to the rumored cut in flops :)
And to the GAF-thread: please take in mind there are as much idiots and haters on GAF like here - you can't read the hate-posts here on VGC and say Xbox One is a failure because of this posts.

Hahaha, what are you talking about? Please, if you don't know technique, don't talk about it. Even if the power is cut to half it will still have much better graphics than 360. Some people...

With what the new rumored specs is being touted then the ps4 will have an ~ 100% gpu advantage which is basically 1080p vs 720p or 60fps vs 30fps.

One problem about rumors is that you get one part true and a lot of speculation in between. I remember reading about this rumor and that thread a while ago. What I do not remember was any downgrade in chip speed. Since this is an old rumor that someone decided to revive, who knows what the state of X1 is today. There hasn't been any info on the subject for awhile.
