Forums - Gaming - XBONE having problems with eSRAM yield. Crazy Buttocks confirms.

i remember there was a rumour last year about MS having problems with the yield for the processors and that it may cause a delay for the new XBOX.

Yea, I remember that, too.  I guess this is just their way of doing a quick fix, so they can still launch in time for the holidays.

Can someone explain eSRAM and why it's so important all of a sudden?

"Rocket science level stuff"

Well this would mean Xbone might come in closer in performance to Wii U, which then makes PS4 the overpowered outlier and hence if 3rd parties start showing WiiU some love it means PS4 power gets underutilized by 3rd parties on multiplat titles. Unless of course PC is the primary dev platform in which case the devs will port to PS4 with a small to moderate downgrade, and then further downgrade to WiiU/Xbone level performance.

It still really comes down to whose exclusive library you prefer. And if MS is buying up some 3rd party exclusives it means they'll be looking for those exclusives to really deliver.

Reliability is a something on which MS can't afford to fall down. You can't release 2 systems in a row with a high failure rate and expect to sell big numbers. So powering down a bit to ensure low failure rates is totally worth the trade off.

This might be related to the low yield rumors we heard about as far back as last December and part of the causes for the rumors saying it was 6mos behind schedule. (which means had it all gone according to plan my bet with Jay520 might have ended differently)

This is not good for MS. Too many negative rumors.

i remembered this pastebin http://pastebin.com/WYBaRtE3 but ignored it because it sound like a fanboy with the lines --

"Microsoft were taken completely by surprise by the power of PS4 and the elegance of the design. Their relationship with AMD is also under extreme duress as they feel AMD have given Sony preferential hardware development support (the truth is that Sony's own engineers supported the process)"

now that second part i believed because ive said before amd were sony cheerleaders and havent said much about xb1. something smell fishy.

" Microsoft are very much aware that World Wide Studios represents a force to be reckoned with now Sony has sorted out the cross regional culture."

who says this stuff

he also missed on the ram and 360 soc

could it be true or simple an anti-drm person throwing a wrench in

Not to be a dick, but Microsoft has already shown it will launch a broken console. So It wouldn't expect a delay unless it actually can't ship the Xbox One

True, but I doubt they launch another broken one.  Sounds more like they're willing to push out a console that is slightly gimped, power-wise, then have to go through another RROD.

I have to say, it doesn't really convey a good image of MS's designers/engineers if they have to create a large box to house the components, one that still has an external power brick, yet they are still having heating issues.

Yep, and they paid billions for it, lost momentum and customers.  I have it repeat twice would not be the best of moves and even MS learn for their mistake.  WIth the competition launching at the same time, it really would be stupid to put out on market a broken product.  So if the rumor is true, I believe MS will either have a big shortage if they cannot meet demand or they will release at a later date.

Good point

Argh.

It's just that simple.
